    Chromecast can't maintain HDX

Just bought myself a Chromecast 2 and have been loving it. Netflix and Google Play work fine, but most of my movies are all on Vudu of course.

On a Roku plugged in to the same TV and connected to the same network, Vudu HDX movies stream just fine (and the speed test hits max score every time too). However, the Chromecast can only play about 2.5 minutes of HDX video before rebuffering down to HD quality (tested with Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon 2). I did fine one movie (Avengers: Age of Ultron) that successfully played in HDX for several minutes without issue.

I checked with Google (to see if it was the Chromecast) but they said to contact Vudu. Anyone else having similar issues?

For the record, I'm casting from an android phone (running Android 6).

    Re: Chromecast can't maintain HDX

Figured I'd offer an update. In order to further test this I actually setup a Plex server and ripped down an entire Blu-Ray disc. I then proceeded to successfully stream the blu-ray (in full, original bitrate - which should be multiple times higher than Vudu HDX's bitrate) to the Chromecast without issue.

It does look like it's the Vudu app on Android, casting to the Chromecast, that's causing the problem. I mostly just want to inform Vudu somehow of the issue so that it can get fixed.

    Thanks!

    Still a Vudu fan!

I noticed this problem almost immediately. Everything was casting fine on my Chromecast until I actually purchased a rental. Unfortunately it would not play on my Chromecast and so I had to watch it on my phone. I definitely would not have rented the movie if I knew I had to stare at my phone, when I have two perfectly good TVs in my house.

I did notice that I was able to cast an HDX movie today, that was free. I am wondering if it has something to do with the purchasing of the rental? I even tried downloading the rental and that did not help the casting issue. I hope this gets resolved, otherwise I would have no reason to watch anything on VUDU except for the free content.
