Re: VUDU UHD, HDR and Vizio M-Series - 1080P?

Thanks for the feedback (and the PMs) the issue seems to have sorted itself out. I suspect it was a combination of the initial stream starting at 1080P, thus that being what it showed in the info on the TV, and the fact that the whole first 3/4 of BvS is basically black and grey. I put the second half on last night, waited a few minutes and checked again and it was streaming in 2160P. The end fight scene (where there is a lot of color) it looked incredible - so I think all is good!

    Thank you for the help!

I will definitely check out the movies you've recommended.

As an aside - what other apps are there that will cast 4K/HDR? So far I've seen that VUDU and Netflix do, are there any others people have found?

Pacific Rim is solid DolbyVision/HDR, with a lot of great shadows contrasted with neon lighting. Around here we also like Edge of Tomorrow as test content for great contrast and 4K detail.

To be perfectly honest, Goodfellas is a good example as to how 4K shows EVERY DETAIL at the limits of a 35mm film transfer: if you love older movies and have a big screen at a fair distance it's a faulthful reproduction, if you have a 4K TV sitting 10' away some dark scenes look a bit like Joe Pesci is being attacked by gnats (aka film grain)...

But from what I am describing... it sounds like I am doing everything right? It should be casting in 4K w/HDR?

And is there another movie you'd recc. that'll really show off the format?

I rented it in UHD from the VUDU app on the tablet remote that came with the TV, selected UHD, and hit play. It starts playing on the TV, and across the bottom of the cast it says UHD... but the TV itself says 1080P on the top. And it looks like 1080P, and looks very similar to the BR through an Xbox One.

In contrast, Mad Dogs streamed from a 2nd gen. Amazon Fire TV looks noticeably sharper, and the info on the TV reports the signal is 2160P.

I have 100 Mbs up/down connection, and like I said, Amazon Video from the Fire TV plays fine... but this doesn't seem to be working right.

    Any thoughts?
