ROKU 3 won't play one of my movies

When I try to watch The Quick and the Dead using my Roku 3, the movie starts to load and then I get kicked out of VUDU and back to the ROKU home page. Tech support suggested unplugging the Roku. I tried that twice, leaving it unplugged for 2 to 3 minutes. Didn't help. They suggested deleting VUDU. I did that then added it back to my ROKU again. Didn't help. It seems to happen with this ONE movie, The Quick and the Dead. I haven't tried all my other titles but I did try about a dozen other titles and they work just fine.

Has anyone heard of an issue like this?

Ok, this is going to sound strange and may not work at all but I had the same problem with my Roku stick about a year ago and nobody could help. Searching the internet I found an answer in some little corner of Reddit or some place like that and it worked for me so it may work for you. There was some sort of glitch with the audio coding so I went into my Roku settings and changed the sound from surround to basic stereo. After that the movie played fine. I later changed my setup back and haven't tried rewatching that movie since. In fact I can't even remember which movie it was.

Like I said it may not even work but it doesn't take any more time to try than unplugging the Roku does.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went into settings on my Roku 3 and there are only two audio choices. Stereo - which means it will only play stereo selections. And the default Auto (stereo), which means the system will select the best audio format for each movie. Just for fun, I changed it to Stereo and tried The Quick and The Dead and got the same result. It started to load and then bounced me out to the Roku home screen.

This is a really bizarre situation. The Roku works perfectly with everything on Netflix, Amazon Prime, CBS All Access and other streaming services. It just refuses to play The Quick and the Dead on VUDU. As problems go it's pretty trivial. If I really want to watch that particular movie I still have my DVD and Blu Ray copies. It's just a bit frustrating to know there's a glitch somewhere (Roku? VUDU?) and it will, most likely, never be solved. And will it manifest itself with other movie selections in the future? I think that's my main concern. Today it's one movie. Will it be two or three tomorrow?

I have one other thing you might try. If your display type is set to 1080p try changing it to 720p. Also under stereo settings you should have an option HDMI auto detect. Under sub menus from that are options to choose all sorts of different audio setups.

I'll give it a try. Thanks!

          Update: Next day

I tried making those changes to my Roku settings and it didn't change anything. This is a really bizarre problem and I have no idea what is causing it. I have, however, reached a conclusion. While I still think VUDU is the nicest, most convenient way to watch my movie collection, I will never again buy a movie (digital only) from Vudu. This experience, plus the "missing titles" messages I have read on this forum (it happened to me one time as well) means that I will buy all my movies on disc. Thankfully, most new releases are (BD + DVD + Digital). That way I will always have the discs available to watch in case one of my titles comes up missing on Vudu due to a broken link, an issue between my Roku and Vudu or other unexplainable glitch in the system.

I reported this to our content ops group. There may be an issue with the audio on this title when using "stereo" on Rokus (vs surround ie. DD+ passthrough) that they can fix.

Also, we have fixed all known "missing titles" on Roku (it was a somewhat related issue where there was no stereo audio track). You should see the same titles on Roku as other platforms.
