VUDU UPDATE DENIES LEGAL USERS IN EFFORT TO STOP PIRACY

Your recent update is denying people who legally purchased content, to view it.

I can understand worries about piracy and region violations, however, when I go out and buy content and download it onto my device for later viewing, I should not be denied access to my purchased content no matter where I am on the planet or contingent upon internet access.

Doesn't the vudu terms say the service is only available in the us?

This is a tough one. If you live in the US and are traveling in another country I think you should be able to access all your US content. However, I also understand that it's almost impossible to correctly enforce that you live in the US vs you set up a US address and live outside of the US plus there are legal issues in both countries that complicate things. IE certain content may be legal in the US and not legal in other countries were someone might be traveling.

I downloaded movies in my VUDU collection to my Win10 laptop and Android devices. I can watch them anywhere on the planet, and there's no contingence on Internet access. I've tested it by turning off Internet access on my laptop and Android devices, the movies played just fine.

It would help if the OP could spell out exactly what isn't working.

But, yes, sometimes a mobile device that thinks it's connecting won't work with Vudu. If you take it fully offline, as in airplane mode, it will probably work.

That does not work for my device/situation.

The VUDU app is looking to be online/have me sign-in for me to view my downloaded content.

Airplane mode is not circumventing this new restriction.

The update had denied me access to my legally purchased content.

I'm not in favor of piracy which is why I bought the content, but this is obviously a reason why pirates do what they do.

Companies need to stop creating restrictions/problems for citizens who have legally purchased their content.

              Understood...

I legally purchased the content and downloaded it onto my apple ipad device.

It was working just fine, but VUDU updated their app and removed my ability to view the legally purchased content offline & outside of the US.

I'm forced to wonder: What was the reason for "fixing" what wasn't broken?

The "Blame" falls squarely on whomever thought it was a good idea to restrict citizens who've legally purchased content. Whether it was a lawyer a CEO or an app engineer.

You didn't look well enough, it's under the VUDU Service Minimum Requirements section.

"The VUDU Service is available only, and Content can be accessed only from, within the United States of America, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico."

This is not something new, this has always been the case with Vudu.

I have been having the same problem for months and it really is frustrating to the point that I am ready to dump vudu all together. It logs me out and when I travel it requires me to log in - even to view my downloaded information, when I try to login it says the credentials are no good - even though I know they are - because I travel outside the USA. Now I am getting a restriction: Oops! This movie won't play on your display due to copyright restrictions. It can be played only if both your output and display support HDCP. [#3342]

I have purchased these movies, have the discs at home for these movies, can carry the discs with me to any place in the world to watch them - even loan them to friends but for some reason, my personal account with downloaded - legally purchased movies - will not allow me to even see them unless I am in the USA. What a friggin' waste.
