Triangle (2010) Doesn't Work - "Failed to get playback information"

The movie Triangle (2010) seems to be broken.

    http://www.vudu.com/movies/#!content/174890/Triangle

When I try to play it on my Roku 3, I get an error message that says "Failed to get playback information". I can't even bring up the movie on my Xbox One.

This movie was only available in HD (not HDX). So I'm wondering if the problem was caused when they removed HD playback.

I submitted a support ticket. A week later I got a copy/paste response about how to fix connection problems. Every other movie on Vudu works, so I'm pretty sure my connection is fine.

Anyone else have this movie? Are you able to play it? Please let me know. Thanks.

I believe that is indeed the error you get when there is no content encode at the requested resolution.

Had the same error when the HDX version of Hiding Out was removed for about a year. Once the HDX version was restored, the error was gone.

Now that all references of the 720p HD have been wiped away, the X in HDX is sort of pointless now, but I guess we are locked in to that.

Maybe HD was removed now that more movies are releasing in UHD, and 4 resolutions was considered cumbersome?

Try changing the default playback setting to HDX (or SD). You can do so under the settings menu > Playback Quality.

Thanks for the info. I just tried that, and it played the SD version. But I don't see any way to switch it to the HD version. Usually there's an option to switch quality. But it's not there.

Can you fix this? I bought the HD version, and I should be able to watch it.

All HD streams have been discontinued. We are aware that there are some titles that had HD but not HDX. We are in the process of acquiring HDX encodes for these titles.

            FelipeF, any update on this?

I paid for the HD version. I'd prefer to get this fixed. But if it's going to take months/years to get the HDX encode, then I (and other owners) should get a refund.

Same here. This is not right at all. How can I trust having access to anything else I own going forward?

The studio responsible for this title has gone out of business. No one else has claimed the rights for this content. There's no way to get a new encode for this title I'm afraid. SD will be the only quality available.

I'm guessing this is simply poor planning on Vudu's part. Vudu HAD (and probably STILL has) the HD encode file. Is it not possible to upscale this version to be able to play on the HDX format? This is bad business practice to take away something that has been paid for without notice, and another black eye to the advancement of Vudu and Pay per title services in general.

EVERYONE who owns this title (and any others that were downgraded) should have been AUTOMATICALLY issued a partial refund on their purchase, and been OFFERED the opportunity to opt for a FULL refund if this will never be restored.

Re: Triangle (2010) Doesn't Work - "Failed to get playback information"

The best solution for the movies in this situation would be to restore the HD stream.

For uniformity, I don't think anyone would even care if the screen said HDX on playback even if it was only the old 720p HD stream, at least until a real 1080p stream could be (hopefully) obtained at some point in the future.

The movie is available on Blu-ray in 1080p, seems odd that the studio never provided a 1080p source... But I guess that isn't uncommon, look at all the movies with HD transfers that the studios only send to vudu in SD for whatever reason

Looks like "The Gene Generation" has fallen to the same fate.

i can't recall if I had any other "HD Only" titles aside from this & Triangle.

That's interesting. I D2D this one back in 2014 and it gave me the HDX option. It showed and ported over to my families vudu accounts as HDX too. Not sure when they lost HDX access, but clicking that link doesn't even show the green check mark despite saying that I can watch or download the SD file. Vudu should still have the file, but not allowed to sell or rent it.
