    FIOS vs Road Runner.

Does anyone use Verizon FIOS for their internet connection and if so are their any advantages over Time Warner or Road Runner?

Everyone I know who has FIOS is very pleased with the speed/quality of the service. I have Road Runner now, but I'm on the FIOS waiting list, and will jump ships as soon as it is possible in my neighborhood. I want the speed!

      Thanks

I had a Verizon rep come to my house to sell me their service. I informed him that I own a Vudu and I really wanted the extra bandwidt for my movies. He told me that the movie will come up faster and that the picture quality would even look better because they have more Mbps then Road Runner. I did not believe him and told him that Vudu already compresses and encodes the movie files at their company so I did not think their would not be any difference. Is he right? does more kbps mean a higher quality movie?

No, he's wrong. The Vudu downloads SD content at 2 Mbps and HD content at 4 Mbps. However, even if you have a 1.5 Mbps connection (like I used to during most of the early alpha/beta phase), you still get the same file and the same content. The file size is still the same. It just takes longer to get the content to your box.

That said, FiOS is going to be better with faster upload and download speeds in general. You can never have too much bandwidth.

Very True. But I do love my FIOS service. 30mbs down/5 mbs up for $55 a month. No bandwidth limits either.

Well I made the switch but we are only getting 5 over 1. It also includes Directive TV and Verizon phone (local & lond distance). I can't wait for the tv service to come to out area.

                    Re: FIOS vs Road Runner.

I have Time Warner Roadrunner and compared to FIOS, which the salesman from Time Warner said would be just as fast and reliable, it is neither as fast or dependable.

We have dead spots in our house now that we didn't have with FIOS wi-fi. We are canceling Roadrunner and going back to FIOS.

We never should have switched, it was a terrible mistake. Roadrunner cannot compete with FIOS in speed or reliability. Not once during our 3 years with FIOS did we ever lose connectivity. With Time Warner it happens at least 4 or 5 times a week.
