    Re: Very Disappointed

Update: Played about an hours worth of the movie from 7pm -8pm last night.

HDX - flawless. Not a single buffering instance or error.

Perhaps all i had to do was reboot my tv? perhaps I got lucky /unlucky?

Worth another shot i suppose while i still have a credit on the account....

I talked to customer service last night. Speed test gave 8.1 MPS through speedtest.vudu.com/cdn1 at 9pm (peak traffic time for cable). TV's speed test gave 9.2Mbps. Disabled the DMZ for the tv (other rep had asked me to try that). I forwarded ports 8100 - 8199 for the tv's IP. I changed the tv's network settings to use static IP and hardcoded the DNS to 4.2.2.2.

I tested I then tried to watch an HDX. Worked fine for about 1 minute - then buffering...bufferring, and more buffering. I switched down to HD. Still buffering..bufferring and more buffering.

I switched to watch a Netflix movie (no issues whatsoever) and went to bed.

Woke up this morning and figured i'd try again while i still had the rental. 7am - started movie while i got ready for work. It played flawlessly for 30 minutes in hdx before i had to leave for work.

        So there are two possibilities:

        1) The vudu software is VERY VERY intolerant of any flucuation in bandwidth or minor interruptions which could happen in the evenings on a cable connection. (Even though the slowest i have ever seen this conection go in the evenings is still above the minimum 4.5 mpbs and typically averages around 7-8 in the evenings, 9+ in off peak times).

        or

        2) I had to reboot my tv in order for the IP/DNS changes to take effect.

I will try again this evening (during peak cable traffic times) to determine which it is.

If it is #1 - i'll be giving up on VUDU.
I've been wondering about item #1 also, however I have a FIOS connection, it does not fluctuate much.....I am currently working with dhatman to resolve this issue...one has to realize there are a lot of different setups out there to troubleshoot.....That said, it does not reflect very well on the service when reliability suffers due to buffering.....Uptime and reliability should be paramount, especially when one cannot store all their films locally....

          Re: Very Disappointed

Quick update: I watched a movie last night in hdx. NO BUFFERING. Only one small interruption when the movie image became distorted. I stopped the movie , rewound, and started again - it then played flawlessly to the end.

I'll take that. This was at 9-11pm - peak traffic time for cable.
