      Re: Buffering issues

Just a shot in the dark, but be sure your computer is not "busy elsewhere". I have had a habit for years of listening to internet radio and simply turn down the volume when not at the computer. I experienced buffering problems frequently until I leaned to exit the streaming radio app whenever I view HDX.

        Re: Buffering issues

thanks for the tip, but i tried that. I made sure to turn off everything else on my network and i still have buffering issues with HDX. when i switch to HD it streams fine. i have since my first post rented two movies. the first one had only one quick buffering issue but the second movie had multiple buffering issues in the first 5 mins. i had to switch to HD...and it worked fine. turned on my laptop and double checked my download speed @ that moment and was pulling approx 25mbs. i dont understand how one movie plays fine and then a few days later cant play another movie.

            Re: Buffering issues

I have a cable modem Arris TM502g (30mbs down and 2 mbs up) connected to a Belkin N600 wireless router. I watch VUDU on a samsung bd-c6500 blu ray player connected wirelessly.
my download speed from speedtest.vudu.com was 22.4mbps 1.9upload.
this was conducted in the afternoon, i usually have a higher download speed at night when i usually watch movies. unfortunatly my blu-ray player doesnt allow me to do a download test from vudu.

              Re: Buffering issues

I personally think this is most likely an issue with Vudu servers/content streaming - NOT - with my home network or ISP performance. My problems always occur at night - never during the day, so it feels like buffering happens most often during 'peak' times (after 7:00 p.m. Central)

I've also verified that my network performance has been fine while seeing the dreaded 'buffering' on the VUDU screen.

Last evening I ran Speedtest from multiple client hard wired computers - and while Speedtest reported 18-21Mbit down (depending on the client), which is supposedly more than ample for HDX streaming, Vudu's content was either 'buffering' consistently or failing the internet performance test (it wouldn't even make it through the one minute cycle).

So, that means that the problem is either my home network, my ISP or VUDU. I turn on a competitive VOD (Netflix HD) and have no issues. I turn on my TiVo and download Amazon on demand with no issues. I called Time Warner and they state that there is no throttling going on.

This leaves the issue clearly in the domain of either the VUDU server's performance in serving content to my geographic area OR my ISP is lying to me.

I am having the exact same problem

I have done the same tests. I am worried there is a vudu server issued going on. I an having no problems on netflix. It only happens at night during peak time. I know this isn't a home network issue.

                  Re: Buffering issues

I am having similar problems, but i am only trying to watch an SD copy of The Departed (i.e., not a popular new release). I am watching on a LG BD690 Blu-Ray player, hard wired to a Netgear wNDR3700 router and a docsis cable modem. Speed test on laptop and desktop are 25 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. When i try to do the Vudu speed test, i get "network error". when i try to watch the movie, it plays for 15 seconds, then buffering, then plays for 5 seconds, buffering, then "try again later". Truly disappointing.

                      Re: Buffering issues

Just got updated by vudu app on my samsung blue-ray player (there was also a samsung firmware upgrade at the same time) and HDX movies (including 3Ds) play very nicely now with only very rare buffering. This is much improved over the previous horrible buffering issues.

I would advise anyone with a buffering problem to collect the following info and call them as requested. As a retired network tech believe me when I tell you finding the root cause of a problem such as a buffering issue can be far more involved than a simple speed or ping test. Take advantage of their offer and save yourselves a bunch of aggravation and wasted time....

                        modem make/model
                        router make/model
                        speedtest from speedtest.vudu.com
                        speedtest from the device

It might also be helpful if you supply the VUDU device brand, model and firmware version. I would also suggest you try a hardwired ethernet connection as a comparison test as even a seemingly flawless WiFi connection can have difficult to trace problems....
