    Buffering

    Hello,

First post on this board. I really enjoy VUDU video and sound quality when it works.

I have been a VUDU user since end of last year. While only occasional buffering took place initially, it has recently become chronic/severe on Saturday/Sunday evenings. The buffering trouble is similar to what others describe when streaming HDX, HD, or even SD from VUDU. Saturday/Sunday mornings seem to be fine. We don?t watch movies during the week so I can?t say if the problem exists then.

    My configuration is:
-Cox High Speed Internet cable service.
-Motorola 6120 DOSIS 3 modem (same issues with previous Motorola 5101U DOCSIS 2 modem).
-Linksys WRT610N 2.4/5.0Ghz dual band router. I am currently running cat5 cable from router to VUDU device (have same issues with either wireless or wired setup).
-Panasonic DMP BD65 player with VUDU, Netflix, etc.
    -Pioneer PDP-5070HD plasma TV.

I have run a variety of speed tests such as Speedtest.net, TestMy.net, the on-line VUDU speed test, the speed test through the VUDU device connection (10Mb/sec ? all green and steady), and have three bars prior to playing the movie. This shows 1 bar or less when I get the message that I can?t stream HDX/HD/SD. At the same time, the on-line download tests typically show bursts of 18-22 Mb/sec then slowing to around 14-16 Mb/sec throughout the remainder of the tests. The VUDU on-line test seems to be the most representative of the video streaming requirement as it lasts the longest. Upload speeds are around 5 Mb/sec. The results are similar, but towards the lower side of the range on Saturday evening. Morning and weekday tests are on the high side.

So, when trying to stream HDX, HD, and to a lesser extent SD, from VUDU, buffering goes on throughout the movie (or till my patience expires). As others have said, I am beginning to think the problem lies upstream of my provider or my household LAN. I see no change in provider throughput, have no troubles in other LAN usage, and have tried two different modems, two wireless configs (2.4 Ghz N and 5 Ghz N with no other devices on line), and now am wired with a Cat5 gigabit connection direct from the router port to the Panasonic DMP-BD65 VUDU device. Nothing I have done has significantly affected this problem. I have speed tested the device end of the cable (at the Panasonic player) using my laptop with the same results ? more than enough throughput.

Hopefully there is an answer to this issue.

    Paul,

I do want to see your steaming sessions before we make any adjustments. Could you send me a private message with the email address you used to create your vudu account?

Buffering, same exact issues as Original Poster

      Hi dhatman,

I am having the same issues as the original poster. I tried streaming an HDX movie tonight at 630PM EST (Saturday). I am having serious buffering issues with HDX, where it is unwatchable (buffers ever 20 seconds). If I downgrade to HD, it works, but at my modem speed, I shouldnt have to settle.

      Here's my specs:

      Modem: RCN 20Mbps
      Router: Netgear Rangemax WNDR3700
TV: LG 47LD650, with wireless dongle

I thought that by plugging an ethernet wire into the TV, it would solve the problem, but it did not.

      Please help!
