You can claim what you like!

I am not new to Vudu but am to the forums, so to get it out of the way...Hello!

Anyway I am currently having Vudu issues in relation to streaming from my browser "Failed to Connect Code 5000" over and over! By way of comaparison this is an extremely fast gaming computer on a very fast network. I have used this computer for online gaming as well as streaming for quite awhile. When your playing live games on the internet it is all about your network and computers throughput. I always have excellent pings and no lag I have noticed, I am only saying this as a benchmark!

Ok back to my point, since this browser streaming issue I have talked to 3 different tech support people on the phone AND 3 by way of email. All have been very knowledgable as well as courteous. The one common claim throughout has been MY network in some form or another. Now I went through the process as requested of course I even went as far as completely dissabling my firewall in the Netgear Router and SPI as well. It didn't make any difference at all...of course! Even if I knew nothing about networks, computers, router, etc. common sense tells there is something else going on here with the issue. The one thing i am positive of..it isn't on my end!

In the scheme of things who cares it is just one more content delivery system and there are plenty of others that do work. I am not upset that it doesn't work for me and was actually pleased with the way tech support responded. However let's get real here, I didn't write the software BUT if I did I would make damn sure IE was my target browser since they are by far the majority! I just wish companies would accept and own up to the responsibilaty I am not your lab rat!

    Hello Staylor,

I do apologize that you have encountered this problem. I can understand why you would be upset. We have had success by opening ports for some users, with this specific error code. If you have opened the appropriate ports like you were saying, and still are running into connection issues. Please post your version of flash, operating system and browser version.

Re: You can claim what you like!

      Hey,

First, apologies if I ask the same questions or suggest the same things support has already done

This error code means the Flash Player could not connect to our server. The most common cause is a firewall blocking the necessary ports, which is why they'd recommend it first. I believe specifically the following ports need to be allowed:

      843
      13207
      13217
      13227
      13237
      13247
      13257

One way to check this from your PC is to open a command prompt and type:

      telnet 208.79.221.223 843
      telnet 208.79.221.223 13247
      (etc)

Both should work if your firewall/network connectivity is OK. On Windows, you'll see a blank screen once you are connected. You can exit by using "Ctrl-]" followed by typing "quit" at the prompt.

Another possible cause of this error is that we only allow streaming from within the US.

Beyond that it's harder to say... you might try making sure your version of the Flash Player is upgraded to the latest (http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash/) just in case there's an issue there...

Re: You can claim what you like!

Thank you and I appreciate the feedback and willingness to help! I have already done the port forwarding...makes no difference! I have done the Telnet...no problem connects immediately! So this comes down to while a possibly interesting issue if I was terribly interested but given the amount of time and effort that has gone into it already, no thanks!

It was not my intent to insult or put down anyone I was actually just trying to point out that we as consumers get this more than we should. I can't imagine what a novice computer user would do in this situation and all the possible suggested solutions, that didn't work. It is NOT our axe to grind it is the suppliers issue, you fix it so we can enjoy and purchase it from you. I am not paid to do your trouble shooting even though I admit I do like a challenge! I learned many years ago when I first started with computers, there is always an answer but that doesn't mean there is a solution!

Appreciate the efforts but I have become bored with it so maybe down the road you will get it resolved and I will try again..till then best of luck!
