    No problem.
    West coast (SF Bay Area).

Good luck with that adapter, and let us know how it goes!

Re: Need help setting up wireless

I'm glad to hear you traded the Belkin for a Linksys, because in my experience, networking gear from different brands do not always play well together, despite the fact that you should just be able to set it up like you set up a laptop for a wireless connection. As for access, once your wireless adapter is set up and given access to the wireless network, you will run a short wire to your VUDU, and any wired connection will essentially "piggyback" on the adapter's wireless connection and not require further authentication.

        PlayWithGravity,

You might want to send a private message to RonV and ask him for help. He's our expert on getting wireless adapters and bridges to work right with the Vudu. Or he may jump in here. He really knows his stuff...We'll get you working...

Re: Need help setting up wireless

Thanks all, I appreciate your help. So far the Linksys gaming adapter is working fine (except for the power connection that's on the blink - I'll replace the unit later once everything settles down).

I do have one more question though. I think I plugged the IP address from my laptop into the vudu, b/c now I can't get on-line wirelessly with my laptop. Any help here?? Keep in mind I'm not a tech person, I was lucky to make it this far.

Re: Need help setting up wireless

Are you using an assigned address on the VUDU or a dynamic address? Addresses should be served up by your router. If you could validate your laptop settings by looking at the network configuration and also the VUDU settings. Both should be set to obtain an address from the network also known as DHCP..

So I should go into my laptop and vudu network settings and type in DHCP instead of an actual IP address?

Yes use DHCP instead of providing a address and see what happens. When you make the change on the VUDU you may have to powercycle the gaming adapter and the VUDU...

                      I thought you weren't a tech guy???
by default all hardware, Laptops, Vudu, gaming bridge and all other ethernet systems are set to receive an I.P. address automatically unless you change it to manual configuration.

Believe me, I'm no tech guy - I'm barely getting through this. I can't figure out how to change my laptop to automatically get an IP address.

Is that the same thing as changing the IP address to DHCP?

Re: Need help setting up wireless

on your laptop, are you running windows? XP? Vista?

if windows, go to my network places - on the left side click on network connections - right click the icon for your wirless connection - click on properties - scroll down to internet protocol tcp/IP and click it - then click the properties button under it.

                          you should see two options:

                          Obtain an IP address automatically
                          and
                          use the following ip address

check the button to obtain automatically and down below make sure to check obtain DNS automatically.

this will set your Laptop to receive an automatic IP address.

Thanks for the detailed walk-through. I checked and my laptop was already set to automatically obtain IP address. But I clicked another box about allowing others to use the network and now all my 'things' are working on my wireless network. Hope that doesn't mean the neighbors can get in (I DO have it password protected though).

                            Thanks again.

as long as you have wep enabled, you should be ok, although I recommend using WPA instead. Wep is pretty easy to crack.

Re: Need help setting up wireless

From a security perspective I find that WPA with AES is the best compromise in compatibility, performance and most important security.

If you cant do WPA/AES then TKIP and WPA would be my second choice. Its hackable but not like WEP. I can break a WEP key in about 10 minutes...

I currently stay away from WPA2 due to vendor driver compatibility issues with router firmware.
