VUDU HDX problems over Verizon FiOS

I have submitted a support ticket, on more than one occasion, concerning buffering issues on my system.

I have Verizon FiOS with supposed download capability of 50Mbps. I have all my devices wired over Gigabit LAN with an Actiontec GigE router.

Since January, I have started having problems EVERY time we watch movies in HDX. I have reset the router etc, to no avail. All devices, two Roku 3 an Oppo BD player have this problem. The problem starte in January of this year.

My pc's report a download speed of near or over 50Mbps with upload greater than 25Mbps.

I can't seem to get to the bottom of the problem ruining my movie watching experience. I cannot figure out if the problem is with my hardware, the Verizon service or Vudu service. Verizon indicates there is no problem with their service or my hardware.

I would greatly appreciate some assistance.

    Thanks,
    Rudy

Re: VUDU HDX problems over Verizon FiOS

I have worked with the support folks at VUDU, who have been of great help. I have since started to look at the problem being my Verizon FiOS connection. I have a technician coming out to the house today. It took several phone calls and a lot of aggravation to get Verizon to send out a tech.

Verizon's remote troubleshooting says there is nothing wrong, but something is definitely wrong.

I'll update the thread when I get a solution.

If you have a chance, send us your case number so we can take a look as well

Not sure if I can dig up the case numbers, but wanted to report the results of Verizon's tech visit.

It turns out my 50Mbps download service had some issue on the line that caused intermittent and very erratic speeds. No rhyme or reason, but the problem seemed to stem from a dirty splitter well away from my home. I should have taken the time to take a look at the ONT box outside. I would have seen the intermittent red 'blinking' light next to the video section. In my case, that signaled a problem with the stream capability of both the internet and a few FiOS channels.

The tech put a meter on the the line going to my home and it showed a 'fail' indication as far as signal strength. He discovered the problem was upstream of the connection at the street splitter. He called another tech that works on that issue. It took him a couple of hours to find the problem at a splitter way upstream that affected me.

Once the cables were cleaned, the original tech changed out the ONT computer to ensure there were no other problems.

Tonight we streamed our second HDX movie with zero problems!!!!

The difficult part was getting Verizon to send someone out to check the problem. They seem very hesitant to send out a technician.

As an aside, I have checked my internet speed several times since the fix, and everything shows 50Mbps down and 25Mbps up.
