APPLE extreme and VUDU on an ALL N network

Yes those of us lucky enough to own apple Airport extreme can use a super fast N network and avoid those annoying pc Based networking bridges (such as Belkin, netgear lynksys) which mostly slow us down. Just buy a 2nd airport extreme ( no the express will not work) place the new extreme in the room with your vudu and tv. Set up your network as a wds N only network ( this will not work if you are still using g computers as they will not be able to access the N network.) There are work arounds for g networks but I am not covering that here. You might hook up you computer to the new extreme to make sure it is getting the internet. Then just hook up your vudu and you are set.
Screaming fast- N network in an apple only environment!

Of course I would like the Vudu Documentation in the future to be more specific about hook ups - such as the need for switchers and why wireless is not Really wireless in their language, and about how most people will not get an N network to work unless all elements are in place. The average non geek consumer unlike myself, will have a challenge setting up Vudu with documentation as is.

Thanks Marla, for the good info. I think there is certainly room for improvement in the documentation and I agree it's really important to make things simple for non-techies.

It's really hard though in documentation to cover all the different varieties of possible network connections. That's why there is great value in the forums like this. I think if you couple that with a well trained tech support staff at Vudu, you have a winning combo.

I'm fairly well involved with Slingboxes as well and SlingMedia doesn't add any more networking info in their literature than Vudu. The support forums help out a lot of users with that. I've seen some doozies!

Anyhow, great feedback and I know Vudu customer services reads these posts and I'm sure they will be very interested in your feedback.

ps: I'm also a big Mac user - just ask any of the other moderators - I always take abuse for it!

Um, Jon, that's not even on the top 10 list of reasons I abuse you!

Seriously, though, for me the key to this is that there is such a huge spectrum of possible setups and possible problems that VUDU really shouldn't try to get involved directly. If I just bought a VUDU and I didn't know about these forums, there are still at least half a dozen (mostly home-theater-related) forums that I'd turn to for help. And people can always contact the maker of their bridge or adapter if they're having trouble, as 99.9+% of issues will be related to the configuration of the bridge or adapter, not the VUDU. As far as your home network is concerned, the VUDU is just another computer asking for an IP address.

Of course, we moderators are here to try and help, and many of the other members will try to help, too...but one of the reasons that I hardwired my home is that it's so much simpler than trying to extend a network wirelessly.

Vudu can post that it works with an apple network. Apple care can help most people set up their wds network.
        Re documentation

If the web page with what you need to set up or even what you will need to buy.

They could even get advertisers like Gefen to post with info about their HDMI switchers, and users could post pictures of their set ups on the forum. Because when you buy and you are not an internet maven you will not peruse the forum for help before setting up or purchasing.

I Saw a VUDU kiosk in San Francisco when I was up visiting (westfield shopping ctr downtown) Unfortunately the guy selling knew less about VUDU than I did. Right now during the writers strike - This is the time to promote these!

I've heard mixed reviews about the sales numbers at these kiosks. Each time I hear someone familiar with Vudu talk about the kiosk, it sounds like the kiosk employee does not do a good job selling the product. Sales is easy if you have enthusiasm for the product and do a little bit of a good and informative demo. Sounds like these guys are mainly manning cash registers.

As for your comment about "Apple" networks - they are basically the same as any other wireless network. If the equipment works well with the Vudu, it should be on a recommended router list.
