    Re: Wireless Setup

If you search the forums, you'll find that these devices will really not work right. They don't have the right timeouts set, they can't handle the amount of traffic, etc. Stay away from them.

I'm going to give it a whirl since its what I have. It's working now and we'll see how it holds up over the long run.

If you've found the secret to making it work, be sure to share your setup details here for others to learn from.

I wish you luck with that adapter. Based on my experience with gaming adapters the software they are running just aren't properly configured to handle long term streaming. The VUDU traffic pattern is much different that that used by the PS/2 or XBox devices. They tend to run out of connections, prematurely close connections, and run out of memory.

Yeah, no dice for those game adapters... firsthand experience says that it couldn't hold up to the Vudu. I switched for a powerline option, even though I am still not getting the speeds I should be.

I have some interesting experience from my end.

I recently switched to using a powerline adapter on one of my Vudus. This is the original 14 Mb/sec SlingLink from SlingMedia. SlingMedia includes software with the units that allows you to see the link speed. I'm seeing many times the link speed of 6 Mb/sec with my wiring. I believe that 6 Mb/sec is for both directions and not each way. So that would mean the speed is 3 Mb/sec each direction. That would be enough to stream content at the current rate of 2 Mb/sec. If we start streaming HD content at some point, I think these older powerline adapters might not be sufficient. The newer generation however has speeds up to 96 Mb/sec so it's a lot better.

They are better but it also really depends on your wiring and which outlets you choose. I am using a Corinex AV200 powerline setup in my house for the one location that I forgot to wire when the house was built. I had to play around a lot to get my current speed (~100Mb/sec). With different outlets, I got as low as 3Mb/sec.

Yep that can happen when you cross over a transformer.
