    player shuts down

I have been trying to watch a movie tonight on my PC, but shortly after the opening credits the player window shuts down. I don't even get a message that it is buffering, it just closes itself. I am trying to watch SD. The Vudu speed test said my upload speed is 729 and my download is 1290. I didn't have anything else running when I was trying to watch.

I restarted the movie 3 times trying to get it to play, and now I only have 24 hours to watch the film (I work the weekend shift, so I won't be able to watch the film now). I know my connection is slow, that is why I chose SD. Is it so slow I can't even watch SD movies?

Uninstall Adobe Flash Player. Any Adobe Flash Player you might have on the computer. Next go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer to get the latest flash player version. Clear your browser cookies and cache then restart your computer. The player should work now.

I am having this same problem. I've tried the suggested fix, uninstalling and reinstalling and clearing cookies/cache and restarting, but it is still doing the same thing. I am also using Firefox. I have tried with both Chrome and IE, too, with no success. The video gets through about 10 minutes and the player just disappears. I have done this fix in the past after having the infinite buffering problem, and it worked then. However, it is not working now. Any more suggestions? I can keep restarting the video and pick up from where I left off, but every time I restart it seems to work for less and less time. It's very frustrating.

Same problem here, started happening I believe around April/May. I was only using Chrome up until that point and then tried using IE and Firefox but those do it as well. Just like smoothrow, it stops working right around 10min, almost on the dot. I tried re-installing flash, but it didn't fix it for me.

I had chalked it up to just being something wrong with my computer, but I built a brand new PC last weekend and I just rented 'The Artist' today and it is still happening (Chrome, IE, and Firefox).

            Here are my PC specs:

            Operating System
            MS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
            CPU
            Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.50GHz
            Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
            RAM
            16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 686MHz (9-9-9-24)
            Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. SABERTOOTH Z77 (LGA1155)
            Graphics

932GB Western Digital WDC WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0 (SATA)
            Audio
            Realtek High Definition Audio

            11.3.300.265
            Internet

This may seem random, but it is worth a shot. Please click on you computer time clock and select "change date and time setting". The third tab should be "internet time", try and enable it if it isn't already. If it is, re sync the clock. Once this is complete try and watch the movie again.

Please let me know what you find.

                It was already enabled.

I should also update my experience with 'The Artist'. After I wrote my previous reply, I was able to watch 'The Artist' without interruption after it shut down twice on me. So while it did happen, it wasn't a constant issue like I've had the last couple of months. I will have to see what the next movie I rent does.

                Thanks for the reply.

                  Re: player shuts down

This has happened to me every time I attempt to watch a video on my PC desktop or Mac laptop with no immediately recognizable pattern. I'll watch half an episode of house and it will close, or 5 to 10 minutes of always sunny and it will close. Works fabulous on my TV, so I haven't brought the issue up yet, instead hoping that an update will fix it.

I'm at a hotel now and would like to watch some videos, but I dont' feel like being interrupted randomly by a closing player. Gonna give it a shot and see if it works better now.

                    Re: player shuts down

Just thought I would update to say this is STILL happening, seemingly regardless of browser or OS, or flash, or time, or show.

Some shows will get all the way through, others will suddenly stop playing and the browser will need to be refreshed.
