Watching HD / HDX Movies on ipad

I have a general question I hope someone can answer for me. I know that you can only watch SD formatted movies on ipad so the question I have is if I purchase a movie from VUDU in HDX does that mean I wouldn't be able to watch the movie at all on ipad or would I still have the option to stream the SD version if I wanted to watch it on my ipad ? I can't believe I'd have to buy multiple formatted versions of the same movie just to be able to play the movie on different devices but I don't really understand how this works.

    Thanks!

Yes, you can always view the lower definition when you own/rent higher definition. The iPad can only have SD.

Why isn't HDX streaming supported on the iPad? It has the resolution for it. Is it coming?

Also, if I download in "highest quality" will that be HDX?

I'm curious about this too, I still redeem Itunes copies that come with Blu Rays just so I can have an HD copy on the go. Really hope UV will change to HD soon.

Any updates on this issue? I'm getting tired of not being able to view 1080p on my 1080p iPad3 Retina display. I bought several HDX movies and can't watch them in 1080p when I'm away from home is a rip off and I think vudu should give a refund or some compensation because those in my situation that travel a lot are not getting what they paid for.

Vudu is only SD on all mobile devices. I think a restriction from the studios. I may be wrong though.

I, too, am tired of not being able to watch the HD/HDX versions on my iPad. Even if they gave me the ability to stream HD/HDX, and only download the SD version, that would be a step in the right direction. Because of this ridiculous limitation, I am continuing to use iTunes when iTunes has HD versions of the movie available.

I too will continue to buy the iTunes digital HD versions since Vudu will not allow anything other than SD on my iPad. Apparently it's still 2010?? Get with it Vudu....really? Standard definition?!?!

Re: Watching HD / HDX Movies on ipad

So let me get this straight Netflix will stream your movie in HD on the iPad and I believe Amazon will do but the movies I own in HD/HDX on vudu I'm not able to stream them in HD/HDX on my iPad. This seems really bad and out-dated for technology. Almost all of our devices now come equipped with HD screens we should be able to watch our content on them in HD as well.

When other services can download and/or stream HD, it's not a restriction, it's a negotiation.

I think they are waiting on CFF for downloads. Why encode everything in HDX for IOS in the VUDU format then throw it away if CFF is only a few months away.
