However, it may not be an Apple restriction in this case, because the flixster app offers HD for some films. I think vudu needs to negotiate an agreement with the studio's to allow HD playback. They could also do some negotiating with HBO.

I can't get anything to play HD in the flixster app on my iPad Air?? Can anybody else??

I'd say that since you can't access your downloads anyway, it might be worth it to try that while you're waiting to hear from Vudu.
I have run into this problem as well. I am traveling in Mexico and prior to my trip I purchased and downloaded several movies so I could watch them. When I run the vudu app to watch the downloaded movies it tells me I need an internet connection. When I go to a wifi spot it rejects my login because it's trying to connect to vudu.mx which has different accounts setup.

Before the trip I actually tested offline mode and it worked, but then image the mistake of updating the app before traveling. I suppose I could pay for a VPN in the us, but that will only solve the problem in cases where I at least have a little wifi.

This is incredibly frustrating as I am not able to use the goods that I purchased for such a purpose.

Sorry to hear about your frustration. The best thing to do is to remove the app and then reinstall it. As like other users have stated, that fixes the issue. On another note, I highly recommend you to NOT use a VPN. It will not work, just saving you time and money. We don't allow VPN connections, it's how the movie studios wants it.

Felipe, I appreciate your response but your information is incorrect in the case of someone still traveling abroad. I explained it in another thread. Uninstalling the app doesn't fix it, besides the fact that it deletes the movies, defeating the purpose of downloading them before my trip to be able to watch offline.

The problem is that from an ip in Mexico I cannot get to vudu.com. It redirects to vudu.mx. This is a flaw in the network configuration by vudu. So I cannot access my account, make purchases, etc. most importantly I cannot signin to my vudu.com account.

In fact, it really looks like a bug with the app because it tells me to create a vudu.com account, even though I already have one! The app thinks it's going to vudu.com, but it's getting redirected to vudu.mx. I'm all for blocking streaming from non-US IP but blocking OFFLINE viewing is a misrepresentation of the service and not what the competitors are doing.

          Solutions
          1) interrupt trip and go back to us, sign in to vudu app, download, come back to Mexico and leave iPad permanently in airplane mode for duration of trip
          2) use a VPN to make sure I can talk to vudu.com to signin (not really interested in the hassle though)
          3) vudu gives me a way to reach vudu.com while traveling, e.g. Fixing the broken networking configuration or changing the app to allow viewing offline content even if it can't signin to vudu.mx
          4) stop using vudu, use another ultraviolet player that let's you download movies and watch them offline, even if you are traveling and really are offline.

I can't think of any other options. Which solution sounds right to you?

          Denis

            Re: iPad Downloads

This app still doesn't work! I downloaded 10 movies to watch in China. Now that I am here, it won't work. I can see the movies on the downloads tab, but when I try to play the film I get the spinning circle. It is so frustrating to pay a lot of money for movies and not be able to watch them!

              Re: iPad Downloads

I know this is a bit of a rekindle of a old topic but its still valid to point to this for others.

VUDU is no longer allowing iPad gen 1 devices with IOS 5.1.1 (which is all apple allows us to use) to be downloaded.

the current version of the VUDU player works on IOS 6 and does NOT work offline as advertised. A login is required for all viewing rights at all times so true OFF GRID usage is no longer viable as it once was.

VUDU Player 2.0.ipa is the last version of the VUDU app that worked properly on the iPad as it allowed us to log in 1 time a month and have full offline viewing of downloaded content without having to relogin AND it works on iPad gen 1 with IOS 5.1.1

I was able to find this ipa in an old backup and thankfully I was able to reupload it manually using iTools1115E to my iPad.

At this point it works perfectly as it always did before. Every month or so (or before a trip) I relogin and refresh my credentials manually so it will not require me to relogin while off grid. (I have a remote cabin with no internet access for hundreds of miles which is where I tend to watch the downloaded titles) That being said. I dont expect they will allow the old version to work forever but if you have a copy I highly recommend you download and backup what you have thats working (meaning version 2.0) and use that for as long as possible as it seems VUDU has no interest in servicing early adopters that spent hundreds of dollars on an iPad when they first came out, and have hundreds of titles in the VUDU library any longer. Downloading a previous version no longer seems to be available from the app store. I do wish they would make the version 2.0 app for iPad IOS 5.1.1 available in these support forums as that would ensure we end users get a quality product that works on our device as its suppose to.

Thanks, BWheeler, this is good to know. I finally got a shiny new phone (Galaxy S5) for the first time in years, but I'm still pretty happy with my 1st gen iPad.

I’m very new to Vudu, and just used the “download “ feature to my iPad. But where is the movie? Is it somewhere ON my iPad? Or is it “in” the Vudu app? Thanks!
