    Playback error due to HDCP?

I just tried to watch a movie in HD but got an error window stating

    "Playback error

Oops! This title won't play in this quality on your display due to copyright restrictions. It can be played only if your output and display support HDCP."

I was given the option to exit or watch in SD. I'm fairly certain my setup is HDCP compliant though. I checked in the nvidia control panel -> Display -> View HDCP status and it states both of my BenQ XL2430T monitors and Geforce 980ti are HDCP capable. I did some searching around online and the only other suggestions were to restart my pc, update my video drivers, and exit teamviewer all of which I did to no avail. Both monitors are connected via DisplayPort cables if that matters, Amazon Basics brand.

I feel like I'm doing everything right here but clearly I'm missing something. Any suggestions to help me watch what I purchased in HD?

What OS/app/browser are you using to play?

Generally both browser and app based players on a PC just uses builtin DRM and drivers of the browser and OS, so if it reports that HDCP is not supported/enabled there isn't much we can do (that's why a common suggestion is to update video drivers to the latest, sometimes they fix it in an update).

But sometimes it depends on the browser - so for example, if you are on Windows 10 and using Chrome (which does have occasional DRM issues), try Edge or the Vudu app from the Microsoft app store. If you are on a Mac try Safari.

I'm using Windows 10 Pro and I tried playing via both Chrome and Firefox browsers with the same error message being shown. Both are fully updated. I just tried Edge and got a different error.

      "Playback error

      Player returned error"

I wasn't even given the option to play in SD on Edge, just to Exit. I just downloaded the Vudu app off of the MS Store and when I attempted playing the movie I got a popup stating "Audio or video format is not supported." Near the bottom of the screen below that error it also stated "Playback was interrupted. Please try again."

The fact that these different browsers/apps are having issues (and that Edge/Win10 doesn't play at all makes me think it may be either some firewall issue talking to Vudu servers, or some more basic driver problem with Win10 (Chrome & Firefox use completely different DRM from Edge and Win10 native app, so it wouldn't be a simple DRM issue IMO).

In this case you would probably be best off emailing Vudu support to open up a ticket: https://support.vudu.com

I've been getting this error on and off as well. I really don't understand why Vudu has so many compatibility issues when Netflix and Amazon Video work flawlessly. And good luck with Vudu support. Expect to hear back in a month.

SOLVED! Vudu support just got back to me and suggested that the software for the monitor was not HDCP compliant. While that is a bit vague my mind immediately jumped to drivers. Lo and behold both monitors had generic UPnP drivers signed by Teamviewer! I selected the Update Driver option in Device Manager and navigated to the appropriate drivers I downloaded from BenQ's website for both monitors and without even needing a restart I was able to watch my movies in HD! Thanks Nick G from Vudu support!

Figured I would post here publicly in case anyone else were to be searching for a solution to a similar problem someday.

I can appreciate the need for copyright protection, up to the point where I can't watch (expensive 4K ) content (and all I want it so use HD) I paid for on the device of my choice. I own a cheap Epson HD projector, which apparently is not compliant. I downloaded the VuduToGo app for mac, downloaded a movie and then tried to watch it on my project and it wouldn't let me. It said "Both devices" have to be HDCP compliant.
I am irate about this. surely where is a way that you can make your app hardware agnostic and still protect the content with software.
                Please get this solved.

I have the same issue but with a 4k tv and a 4k computer with a 4k hdmi. Everything, and I do mean everything is up to date. And my issue is not resolved. Yes my internet is working, it is not slow and it is connected. My cookies have been erased.

What type of PC (& video card if you know it) is it? And is it to a laptop builtin display or an external monitor? In either case, do you also have an external monitor plugged in?

I think I might know what's causing the problem. If I have 2 windows open on the same browser, one for vudu and one for netflix, even if both windows are not playing any video, Vudu won't play any video due to HDCP issue. It works when I close netflix entirely.

Anyway, here's the spec u asked.
Windows 10 Desktop PC. RTX 2080 Ti. 2 monitors with HDCP enabled.
