What happened to the ability the download and watch movies offline via Android App?

(!) Can't connect to VUDU! Please check your network connection or settings and try again
If I am not connected to the internet, the VUDU app no longer works. I get the above error. I can no longer access or navigate the app to get to the movies I've already downloaded if I am not online. Its very important for me to have this functionality so I can have the ability to watch movies on the go, when I do not have access to a internet connection.

To be honest, I'm curious if this is a bug, or the direction the service is going. I'd assume a bug since other services (google play / Amazon video) still offer offline support. So it wouldn't be practical to cut back on services the competition offers.

I'm also not sure if a VUDU rep/community manager has addressed this issue with the public. The only place I've seen it mentioned is the Google Play (current version) VUDU app user reviews. So I know I'm not the only one with this issue and not thrilled about it.

    Thank you.

I was actually about to start a topic on this myself. I had a handful of TV episodes downloaded to my phone which played perfectly fine yesterday, but this morning I started seeing the same error message as you. I tried turning off mobile data/wifi and deleting and redownloading the episodes to no avail. I even tried streaming the episodes, but my phone has shaky data reception at work, so I can't keep the streaming from buffering every couple minutes (but at least the episode actually plays). I'm hoping this a small bug that can be fixed quickly!

It works. In the release announcement, they said the app was so different from the previous version that stuff you downloaded with the old app would not play in the new version.

I just tried putting my phone in airplane mode with no downloads, and all I see is that error. I then turned airplane mode off, downloaded a featurette, killed Vudu and turned airplane mode back on. When I restarted Vudu, I got that message for a moment but then I could see my download list.

So basically the problem both of you have is that you have no content downloaded from within the new app.

EDIT: Now i just need to figure out how to delete stuff!

I downloaded all of my content post-update. I updated the app as soon as it was released. Literally, one day (10/19) to the next (10/20) my downloaded content went from playable to non-playable. Prior to the update, my phone was not able to play any content.

I had downloaded episodes that didn't play, deleted everything, successfully streamed the episodes (w/ a lot of connection related issues; not the issue here), then redownloaded the episodes and they would not play again.

Also: To delete downloads, on the "My Downloads" page hit "Edit", then check the content to delete in the upper-right corner of the artwork, then hit "Yes".

EDIT: I don't know wtf happened, but it seems to be working again for me. Glad to see this is up and running again.

There is a glitch. I can watch my downloaded movies just fine, but not until I first go online to get the covers of the downloaded movies to show. Once the covers are showing, I can go offline, then watch any of my downloaded movies.

I have to repeat the same steps every time I want to watch a downloaded film.

Yes it is working for me.

BUT the downloaded files are missing all cover art, and there is no text title, so you can't easily tell what each downloaded file is until you play the file

All downloads are just a dark blue box with a big Play icon on it. I have a photo but can't get the forum photo uploader to work.

I will assume this is a known missing feature, and I hope a fix is in the works

Yep. Didn't realize with the update, it removed the movies I had previously downloaded.

              Thanks.

Also noticed that the PLAY and the PAUSE are not a standard under android operating system, for this latest version. All
my other apps can be controlled by a Bluetooth remote that is mapped to play and pause. Watching videos on XBMC-Kodi and on other video apps fine. But VUDU is not doing it correct. Hope that the developers will fix that in a new version soon.

                  Hi,

We indeed found some issues related to this one. It should be fixed by the latest version pushed out yesterday (Nov/24). Do you mind trying it and let us know if it is fixed?

This week's update fixed the glitch for me. Thanks Vudu.

I am currently having this problem on a new install of Vudu app 4.1.61.10426_22_1 on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 running Android 5.1.1. Getting ready for a big road trip and so far the app is failing the most important use case.
