What are the requirements for HD/HDX?

I have an Xperia Z1 and despite my device being able to handle 4K video easily I get the message saying HD/HDX isn't supported on my device.

Is there any way to enable HDX playback on my device?

    Thanks

SD/HD/HDX playback is usually restricted based on device's DRM capability and not on processing or rendering capabilities.

VUDU content is protected using a DRM technology called Widevine[1]. Devices certified to use Widevine are categorized into 3 security levels. Level 3 and level 2 are less secure and level 1 is most secure.

The rule is as simple as: Widevide level 2 and 3 can only play SD, level 1 can play HD/HDX content.

For the more tech-savvy people, that want to understand a little bit more of how Widevine works and what each level means, check this link[2]

      EDIT: Fixing level information.

Not sure why my post was deleted lol.
Well that doesn't really help, still no idea on which device is level 2 hdx compatible. The only way is to have the community to post which devices is working with hdx. I guess vudu is too cheap to provide their testers a large number of devices

I will start with what works with hdx:
        Galaxy note 3
        Galaxy note 5
        HTC desire eye

        And what doesn't work:
        Nexus 7 both versions
        Lenovo tab 2 a10

I wonder if any tablet works, there are not that many lollipop 1080p+ tablets out there

got a few more devices tested for HDX
ASUS zenfone 2 and ASUS zenpad S both are working with HDX playback.

I think the requirement is not only lollipop 5.0, it also depends on the cpu/SOC manufacturer.
          based on my observations:
          what works:
          qualcomm snapdragon
          intel atom

          what doesn't:
          mediatek

Re: What are the requirements for HD/HDX?

I've also found in general that HD/HDX playback is not supported on Android devices whose microSD card limit is 32GB or less -- mostly cheaper tablets. The connection between the two involves the card's format: Most HD/HDX movies require more than 4GB to download, but traditional FAT formats (such as FAT32) used by default on microSDHC and smaller cards (<=32GB) limit file sizes to 4GB. MicroSDXC (64GB and up) uses a different format called exFAT which permits larger files, but it is restricted by Microsoft patents; most low-end Android devices don't come with the paid, proprietary drivers needed to read and write exFAT.

Anyone tried the LG G Pad II 10.1? HDX downloads work on my LG G4 phone, but I was thinking about getting a new tablet and would like to be able to download HDX.

EDIT: The G Pad II does support HDX downloads, if anyone is looking for a cheap tablet ($280 on Amazon) with good specs (1920x1200, 2GB RAM, 2.26 GHZ quad-core processor) that supports the format.
