The Vudu Forums are designed to help viewers get the most out of their Vudu experience. Here, Vudu customers may post information, questions, ideas, etc. on the subject of Vudu and Vudu -related issues (home theater, entertainment, etc). Although the primary purpose of these forums is to help Vudu customers with questions and/or problems with their Vudu service, there are also off-topic areas available within the Vudu Forums for users to chat with like-minded people, subject to the limitations below.

Please post all comments in English. When posting a comment in the Vudu Forums, please conduct yourself in a respectful and civil manner. While we respect that you may feel strongly about an issue, please leave room for discussion.

    Windows 10 Vudu app hangs then crashes initial launch and startup.

    As I know there are a number of wannabe experts out here, I'll get this out of the way first. I hold a number of certifications, including MCE, MCSE, MCSP, MCSA, MCNP, MCNA, A+ and a few others. I am a senior IT Consultant with over 20 years in the computer and information technology industries. I have worked for both Microsoft and Dell for couple years each and am extremely well versed and familiar with the "in's and out's" of troubleshooting. With regard to the issue I am reporting here, I'm hoping to catch the eye of an actual Vudu tech or agent, as getting help from them directly has been fruitless and an utter and complete waste of my time.

    I have seen a number of similar posts, but none of them have answers, only snarky comments alluding to those threads and posts as being potential spam or fake complaints. I recently installed the Vudu app (back in November 2020) from the Microsoft Store on my Windows 10 laptop. Prior to installing it, I verified the signature of the license and confirmed it is a legitimate download. I was able to use the app consistently without issues or concerns until last week. Each time I attempt to launch the app, it will load right up to the login screen then hang/freeze for about 5 minutes, immediately followed by a full app crash. I reset the cache and app settings, as well as reinstalled the app from scratch. None of that worked. I then rolled back a few of my recent Windows updates and repeated the reset and reinstall of the Vudu app, still nothing. seeing as how this laptop is less than a year old, and spec'd out for full video and software editing and production purposes from Dell, and seeing as how it really isn't anything to consider here, I am not going to list the GPU, RAM, HDD and CPU specs. To be frank, listing that information here is pointless and it's none of your business anyway.

    What does matter here is this. My Event Logs show the following error information, which is identical for all instances of the utility crashing:

    Now this is out here, is there anyone who can help explain to me why the app is crashing? I have since reapplied my Windows updates, as well as ensuring all my Dell drivers are current. I have also reinstalled the Vudu app and am back to not being able to use it until this issue is fixed, or someone else can provide the solution. Hopefully something gets fixed here shortly so that I can download and migrate my vast digital collection to an external HDD and sever ties with all these frivolous and faulty streaming services.

    You can't download movies and then move them to a different drive on Vudu. If you do, it will break the downloads (DRM) and the files will be useless.
