Speaking of AppleTV, did they release all 100 HD rentals? If so, could someone compare what Apple has with what Vudu will have in the update? Is the content similar aside from Vudu-exclusives?

As of this morning, the 2.0 release was still not released yet.

I see. By the way. whenever Apple and Vudu release updates someone needs to do Vudu vs AppleTV vs Xbox 360 vs Cable VOD vs BR/HD-DVD comparison on the same movie(s)

I plan on doing an ATV vs. Vudu review. Ken, kmulder, has said that he'd do one as well to provide a less "biased" standpoint...

I checked ATV again tonight - nuttin. I'm really anxious to see what new photo library features the box has...

Look's like Vudu is going to beat ATV to the HD rental party!

How does Apple Tv achieve what the VUDU box does?
This listing of I guess VUDUs main patent is quite long but talks about the prcoess for the video downloading.

It doesn't achieve what Vudu does. It's a totally different beast. The ATV model can't support instant watching of HD movies. Vudu does (real soon for you guys).

If there is no instant veiwing with AppleTV, what good is it?
I guess I answered my question, it obviously isn't any good. And it definitely doesn't sound like it comes anywhere close to VUDU.

ATV streams SD movies so they are watchable within about 30 seconds to 5 minutes after rental. HD movies are longer - I don't think they've said how much longer...Vudu is truly instant.

And ATV HD rentals are only in 720p.

I can't wait till Redwein tries to max out his bandwidth with all 5 Vudus!

                          Yea!!!

I also seem to recall Jobs saying that all 100 titles wouldn't be available until the end of Feb. So with that caveat, until then they could get away with providing only 5 HD titles (like Directv does) without saying they mis-spoke.

I bought my ATV a few weeks ago, and it's quickly turning into a great (and expensive) paper weight.

p.s. you should go to the Apple forum, there are a lot of unhappy campers there.

I've had it for about a year now or almost a year. It's a good paperweight for sure. I am very disappointed with the photo display capability which is why I bought it. It does neat slideshows, but that's about it. You can't rotate or zoom on photos and you can't simply browse your photo library. They have to be viewed in slideshows. I'm hoping that will change...

I think the proper term coined by the community was "Door Stop".
