Number of Movies Available to Rent

    Hey everyone,

I haven't yet purchased a Vudu, but I am considering it. My primary concern is the number of movies available to rent. I know that TV shows are purchase only, and I know that it can take 3-4 weeks for new releases to become rentable. I'm fine with all of that. But, I have seen several people post both here and on Engadget that they wish more movies were available to rent. Yet, I saw in another thread here that there are over 3,000 movies that are rentable. That sure sounds like a lot to me!

So, does anyone have an exact number of the movies available to rent? What are some examples of older titles that are purchase-only? And finally, I know that these are recent releases, but just so I can get an idea: Is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix rentable? Knocked Up? Superbad? Hairspray (2007)?

    Thanks for your help!

I believe there are over 3000 rentable titles. I haven't looked lately, but that sounds correct.

In terms of the movies you mentioned, I believe all of them are now rentable.

In terms of some older movies that are purchase only, oh let's see...shoot the only really old one I can think of right now is Lawrence of Arabia, but there's some newer ones that are purchase only as well (like from the 80s and 90s). Most "library" titles are rentable though or the purchase price is much less (under $10.00).

On my box, if I filter by "Available to Rent", I see 3490 titles available to rent so there's a good amount available.

I'm just waiting for The Brother's Soloman to become available for rent. About 2 weeks or less.

If anyone has not seen this movie yet, I'd recommend it... it is a really good movie, and well worth watching.

Speaking of recommending movies, is there any plans to allow users to rate movies in any future firmware updates?

We (beta testers) have strongly suggested this type of community aspect be added to the Vudu. I hope it gets to move up on the massive todo list that the engineers are working on.

I've learned that there are a few more HD titles being relased today that may take another day or two to show up on your catalogs. These are new titles that were not part of the beta test, so we are all looking forward to seeing even MORE HD content in the next couple days.
