    Re: Question about new update??

I don't know why Undiscovered Country is in stereo only. It's what Vudu gets from the content provider (Studio). It's odd because Star Trek I and Star Trek II are both in DD5.1 But even though Star Trek I is in 5.1 and VI is in stereo, the audio source quality of VI is way better.

The vast majority of HD titles are in 5.1. I'm not sure why the studios don't see fit to provide all HD source material with 5.1 audio.

Apple may be advertising all rentals in 5.1 for HD. But that might mean they won't offer movies like StarTrek VI.

Audio is in stereo. No Dolby 5.1.
I thought all the HD rentals were going to be in 5.1.
Apple is advertising all there HD rentals will be in 5.1 Digital sound.
    Why not Vudu?
I find the sound is more important than the picture quality. The difference between 720p and 1080p is hardly noticeable unless you are right on top of the picture.
I would much rather have the high end audio formats than 1080p.
I find the sound envelopes you into the picture much more than a slightly sharper picture.
I hope Vudu corrects this soon.

I'm pretty sure if you go to the Apple TV site, you'll see an asterisk disclaimer stating that not all HD movies have DD5.1

Personally I'm the opposite, stereo converted to Pro Logic doesn't bother me at all but the picture quality is everything. To each their own.

Oh you are so right. Thank you for bringing sanity back into the world!

          From the Apple site:
Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound is not available with all HD rentals.
Does this make you feel better, Ken?

          IT ISN'T VUDU'S FAULT!

Actually, I've watched StarTrek VI on Vudu in HD now about 4 times and when using DTS neo6 on my Denon 2808, the quality of the surround is simply amazing. It's as near to 5.1 as you can get.

OTOH, the center audio track in StarTrek I was very muddy.

So Apple flat out lied when they said all HD titles would be in 5.1? That sounds way worse than the "misleading marketing" accusations that were flying around here awhile back.

I don't think Apple ever claimed it. It's what people wanted to hear.

There was a lot that went into this build of software. There was a lot of testing as the networking requirements for streaming HD are tremendously different from SD content. Would you rather have waited another month or two for the HD streaming and gotten storage thrown in at the same time? I don't think so. There's only so much we can do at once. Keep in mind the beta team had to debug this and test this multiple times. There was a lot of work that was done.

External storage will be a big job in and of itself.
Actually, I would of preferred the storage solution first, as what good does purchasing HD do me if I have no room to store it. Granted, its all rental now, but I understand that HD was a priority for you guys since you wanted to beat Apple TV to the punch, so you could have bragging rights.

However, in the process you are losing out on money from people like me who spend 4x-5x as much money per transaction, for the sake of bragging rights. Regardless, it seems ironic to even allow people to purchase movies at all, if your not going to support the ability to store those purchases. Not to mention that some movies are "Purchase Only" and by limiting my storage space you are effective making it impossible for me to watch those movies without a lot of hassle of calling customer service every time I want to add more space, which in itself is something that needs to be resolved ASAP!

Don't get me wrong NA9D, I do appreciate the work you beta testers do, and the engineers at VUDU, but I feel that more effort should of been on put on fixing the storage limitations, after all why even allow people to buy movies if you can't even store them, before working on how to add more content which can't even be purchased due to VUDU's storage limitations.

Why don't you just buy the Vudu box with the larger drive? (forgot what its called)

I've already done that, and I'm still running out of space as I add more movies. I shouldn't have to call VUDU everytime I need more space, nor do I think the majority of customers look at that as a reasonable long term solution to your storage limitations. Also, If I'm going to spend 20 bucks to buy a movie, I want physical control of that media, not have VUDU store it for me on there servers, and hope that sometime in the future that VUDU is still around for me to get that media back. While I sure hope that isnt that case, I no more want Blockbuster holding onto my DVD's I purchase, than I do want VUDU to. Thanks, but no thanks.

I don't have to worry about it yet but I can see how these TV shows could easily get you over 50 titles in a short period of time. I already have eight of them.
Yeah, it definately is not hard if your watching TV shows, I've already managed to max out my VUDU with TV shows, and had to have like 20+ deleted after I ran out of room. I've personally decided to stop buying TV shows for that very reason. Hopefully, they will offer a solution soon, since you CAN NOT rent TV shows.

Don't take this wrong, but I think you are in the minority. I think most customers wanted the HD streaming first. It's been something we've been chomping at for months before the product was even released.

I honestly believe you are in the minority here. The sense from reading this form is that there are more renters than purchasers. Think about it. If you end up buying 1000 movies at 4GB/move, that would take 4TB to store them. Do you really see yourself doing this? I've done it and, trust me, it isn't worth it. I am so excited to be able to watch what I want, when I want it and not have to worry about paying for and owning hardware to support it. Vudu gives me the real ability to not have to own a s**tload of movies just so I can choose from a large library when I want to see a movie.

                                1. It isn't available

                                2. It is supposedly only available through Home Theather Installations companies, so who knows if they will sell it as a individual unit vs as a package for some installation I don't want.

                                3. This was already covered in http://forum.vudu.com/showthread.php?t=2407
