They just don't learn do they.

Content Owner: Gee, these boxee users are really enjoying their shows on Hulu. They love it.

Hulu: Yes. It's good business for us and you. It's generating tremendous interest.

Content Owner: But it's taking away from traditional media sales and people are not watching shows when they are broadcast on TV.

Hulu: So. They are watching your shows. It's just a new way

Content Owner: NEW IS NOT GOOD! We must stick with what has always worked! We have a system. WE CANNOT AND WILL NOT CHANGE!!! BOXEE CANNOT HAVE HULU!

    Hulu: Why?

Content Owner: BECAUSE IS SAID SO. I am "God" as far as you are concerned. REMOVE HULU FROM BOXEE.

Hulu: But sir. Why? It's just like doing it via a web browser but on TV.

Content Owner: Don't you get it you Moron. NO ONE wants to watch TV shows on their computer. They want to watch them on TV! Boxee is messing with my revenue stream!

Hulu: But sir. It will devastate us. It will break the users hearts.

Content Owner: I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE USERS! All I care about is my revenue stream.

    Hulu: But sir.

Content Owner: NO BUTS! I have to protect my traditional content channels. I don't care the world is going digital. I don't care. I don't care. I am a monolithic behemoth. It will take more than a bunch of computer nerds to bring me down. This internet on demand thing is nothing more than a fad. That's why I can't sacrifice my income stream. This business is NOT about bringing content to consumers. It is about ME MAKING MONEY! DO YOU UNDERSTAND. I WILL BURY YOU! Pull yourself from Boxee if you ever hope to have a job even serving french fries to stars in Hollywood! I WILL BURY YOU!

    Hulu: Yes sir.

Content Owner: Good. Now leave me alone as I play with my 8-Tracks.

Oh come on, what a load. Give them some slack. You know they really meant "Freedom Fries". (Don't you??) After all, as newbees, we all need to somehow discriminate ourselves from all the other socialistic societies.

Since when would anyone in leftist, marxist Hollywood ever dare to use the word "Freedom"? They would prefer to be French...

Re: No more Hulu on Boxee

Some interesting reading in the NYTimes and the WSJ this weekend regarding cable companies and internet video streaming. The comments attached to both articles are also interesting. Established video content owners and distributors are starting to realize that video delivery over the internet is going to modify, make or break their existing business models a lot sooner than they previously thought. As the speed of the internet connections to homes increases a big hurdle for alternative business models from online delivery players are removed. There is a new playing field and the teams have not yet signed all the players or gotten their game plan together. This space is getting more and more interesting by the day.

Re: No more Hulu on Boxee

Cable companies need to realize they are in the "information distribution business" and not in the "TV" business. TV schedules as we know them today will be gone in a few years. I predict that within 10 years, everything will be on demand. Sure you may have regular OTA TV broadcasts but that will reach an ever diminishing amount of the population. Most people will be using an On Demand model entirely for their viewing. This is particularly true with movie channels. The idea of having a movie channel like HBO or Showtime with a fixed schedule is becoming archaic even today. This will spread to TV shows as well. This is really why I think that something that easily puts web based video content onto a big screen is a threat to the current business model. There's also fewer advertisements. So if people stop watching NBC and only use Hulu, NBC loses revenue as does the cable companies. Follow the money.

Well, it appears Hulu is back... but in a different form.

Ha, Hulu's now blocked them at the source. They asked nicely so Boxee could notify the customers. Which they did a week or so ago. But surely the Boxee team can't be surprised with the response after re-enabling content. Whatever, it's all low-def and mostly random crap anyhow. Alf?
