    Storage Vault

Before I get started I would like to thank JohnA for getting me registered.
I have been trying to become a member since Nov. 08 with no luck.

I am an avid VUDU fan. Much like I am of TIVO. With Tivo I started in 99 and persuaded all my friends and family to become TIVO believers. In fact I must have bought at least a dozen TIVOs for friends to get them hooked.

Just like I am doing now for VUDU. The Christmas special of 150 dollars with 50 dollar movie credits was to much to pass up. I bought six and proceeded to give them out as Christmas presents to my closest friends. I still trying to get one for my mother but that will have to wait until Labor Day.

Now back to my TITLE Question. I sent an email to VUDU asking about storage addons. THis was in January. I got a very nice reply that they were working on it and had plans to make it happen in the coming months.

Cut to a few weeks ago and I read that some studios will now let you record HD and HDX movies to keep. YIPPEE!! But as for storage you could use your present hard drive or Vudu storage vault.
STORAGE VAULT? Has anyone used it? Does it come up on your guide under the MY Movies icon? Will I be able to see really cool pictures of everything I have stored?
In truth I do not mind this option. I think it will save me a lot of headaches in the long run. When the studios finally come around to this I want to own everything I can find under the sun on a digital format. How cool would it be to flip through a thousand movie catalog that you owned.
    In HDX to boot!
    My dream is almost here.
I figure if I am going to spend 25 dollars min. for a Bluray (with extras) than maybe less than 20 dollars for a HDX would be great.
I know some movies I would still buy on Bluray just for the added extras.

So in closing, its great to be a member of VUDU and this forum. I sure hope we can get more people to join our group. I try every day to tell people the good word on this new product.

    hersheytx,

Welcome and thanks for the post. Yes this is an interesting time in the delivery of video content, movies, TV, etc. A lot of us here also would like to have some type of external storage and I am sure VUDU is working on this since, as you stated, we can easily fill of our VUDU's with purchased content.

Lot of movies and all TV shows can be archived to the VUDU "Cloud". Just go under the Archive menu on your VUDU. When you archive to the "Cloud" the movie or TV shows stays in the listing of My Movies or My TV Shows and will start to stream as soon as you want to watch.

    I hope this helps.

      Yes, welcome.

At present, the only archive method for movies or TV shows is the Vudu "cloud" as Ron mentions. Some movies can be archived there but most cannot.

We are all anxiously awaiting an external storage solution from Vudu for archiving titles. We don't yet know when that feature will arrive but it is the most anticipated one yet...

Now that users can purchase HD/HDX movies, I have to believe this feature is not far behind. But then again no one but Vudu knows their release schedule...

From a 3/13/09 UltimateAV mag article:

"A USB port on the back panel currently has no use. Vudu says it was included to let users add third-party hard drives for increased storage, and the company expects to introduce this functionality in the second quarter of 2009."

Actually, the article is incorrect. The USB outlet has plenty of use:

1.) Power devices like a USB powered fan or HDMI switch
2.) Add a keyboard for controlling the Vudu
3.) Add a mouse for controlling the Vudu

              Re: Storage Vault

I noticed a few days ago that the archive page changed. Now it shows you how much space is available on the hard drive for HDX/HD/SD titles. So I can easily see, when I'm able to download something else after I archive or delete something.
It's getting pretty bad for me now. I only have one box now that I can download to without having to archive/delete or having to wait for a rental to drop off. The other two are basically full.
