VUDU Labs - On Demand TV

I 've been trying to sell a few on VUDU, but when they asked me what channels are in the On Demand TV, I told them to check the website to see if it was listed, only to discover, that you tell them On Demand Exist and that it offers 120 channels, but without telling them which ones they are.

Is there any way you guys could add a web page to list what channels are available??

I'm sure this would be a better selling point, if people actually knew what they were getting and could find some show they like.

You know I actually find the name "On Demand TV" to be misleading. When I heard it, I assumed it was a way to watch regular TV programs (e.g. from NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, etc.). Is it obvious to others that it's really more podcasts than television programs?

I agree. I keep looking in there to see if there is any true new OnDemand TV content and there isn't. Most of what is there, I really don't care about. The few HD ones I do care about like Hublecast HD, don't play very well - they play much better on my ATV...

I agree. I think they could really improve the value proposition by adding "real" on-demand TV.

Improve the value for who? How would that benefit VUDU finanacially? How would you propose adding "real" on-demand TV, while still benefiting VUDU, as I'm sure "real" channels cost VUDU "real" money vs using podcast videos?

The customers. Of course "real" would cost money but then you'd have to pay for it just like you do with the current TV content but much more of it. It would benefit Vudu financially by being able to compete with the likes of Amazon and AppleTV with TV show purchases. Better yet, make it TV show rentals for say 75 cents or even a dollar...

If I forget to watch or Tivo a show, then the only option - and even then only for some shows - is to watch it online using the network's web site. I wouldn't mind paying a small rental fee to watch in HD over vudu. Good idea.

Huh? Was my wording confusing? As NA9D said - add value for the customers. The term value proposition typically implies an offering of value (or a proposition) from a company to its customers.

And I wasn't proposing that they add anything for free. I'm quite sure just like any business that they would only offer the service if they could make money off of it.

                My point was simply this:

If Vudu offered more relevant TV shows FOR PURCHASE that it would improve the value that they are proposing to their customers. I, for one, would enjoy having more relevant TV shows to choose from. I, for one, would also be willing to pay for that service.

What does this have to do with VUDU Labs - On Demand TV again?? Unless you were suggesting they offer some kind of free "real" shows, like HULU does, under VUDU Labs - On Demand TV. However, I don't see any value, from VUDU's standpoint, for that proposition.

VUDU already has a separate area located in VUDU for paid TV shows. And while I agree they should add more "real" relevant shows that appeal to the masses, that has nothing to do with VUDU labs.

All I was suggesting is that they change the name so it isn't misleading. I also definitely would like to see vastly increased content in the main TV area.

They could certainly offer ad supported OnDemand "free" content. It might be Hulu-like. The value proposition is that customers would get "free" content and Vudu gets ad revenue. I'd rather see a TV rental option, but being able to get free TV shows isn't a bad idea either (OK, free but with ads).

OK - I see the disconnect now. My post was a little misleading b/c I really wasn't talking about the "On Demand" section of Vudu Labs. I don't use that b/c it's completely irrelevant for me.

What I was talking about is beefing up the offerings in the paid TV section which is still "on demand" to me. They currently have lots of TV shows in there but most are ones that I wouldn't watch and several are ones that I've never even heard of.

Same here. I don't find anything in Vudu Labs that I personally use or would use (at least not yet ). Right now I use my Vudus exclusively to watch movies. Vudu Labs is more of a novelty than anything that would convince me to buy a Vudu. I'm sure others feel differently.

I use the news channels in Vudu Labs a lot. I can't stand watching US news channels (or most broadcast TV in general) as the ad's drive me insane. The podcasts have these stripped out and provide some very good, short updates from the various major news sources which all update daily (on the day of the news). There are also longer podcasts like "meet the press" that's available on the same day as the broadcast, again really without any ad's. My only complaint would be it could use more international sources but for a product that is sold exclusively in the US (for now, at least) that wasn't a big surprises.

My Vudu Box is still first and foremost a HD movie rental device which is what is does best. Features like the news feeds in Labs (and my personal favorite, Pandora) really just add value to the end user.

I just wish they'd add Fox News' podcasts to the list. Now before you lefties go off on your "Faux News" rants, keep in mind that we have freedom of the press in this country. You have a right to CNN, Newsweek, CNBC (esp. Nora O'Donnell and Chris Matthews) and the rest of the liberal media. I just would like Vudu to add my source for news...
