So when you go to the video settings after playing one of these movies the radio button is on "stretched" evben though you selected "boxed" the last time you went to this page? This would be a bug. I haven't seen this or been able to reproduce this. What is your system ID? I would like to look at the logs. It would help if you gave me the time when this happened.

What is the output format when this happens (1080p,1080i, 720p or 480p)? Could it be that the stretching that you see are done by your equipment? Or do you really see our settings change to stretched?

When you see the movie incorrectly stretched, does it look proper or is the image distorted? Or is content cut of the top and bottom?

When I watch "The last men on earth" I see no letterboxes. Just 2 very small black bars on the left and right side (pillarboxes). Buffy shows large pillarboxes on my 16:9 TV with 1080i output format which is how it should be for full screen content in boxed mode.
Both of my boxes are set to 1080i output.
My system IDs are 0x3a30 and 0x3835.
Non of my equipment seems to be causing it since it does the same thing when connected directly to two separate HD sets.

        Aaron,

Volker pointed out that the movie "The Last Man on Planet Earth" is widescreen (16:9) format. There is an issue though with the pillar box mode not sticking. I verified it several times. But the movie you picked isn't valid for this test. I have verfied a problem with "Attack of the Monsters" which is full screen (4:3). I have seen that I can set the setting to boxed and it works the first time I play the movie but not after that. So something funky is going on.

        Thanks for pointing this out.

Re: Stretch mode with SD playback

Further update: I can only get the boxed setting to revert by going into the Video settings menu. Whenever you enter that menu, the option reverts to stretched. But I can set boxed mode, go out and start playing Attack of the Monsters, then go back and play anything else and come back to Attack of the Monsters and the video is still boxed. As soon as I go into settings though, the video goes to stretched mode.

Re: Stretch mode with SD playback

From the logs it seems like both of you were pressing the wheel select button about 2 seconds after you selected video settings. Since the stretch settings has the focus when the page opens this will cause the settings to change to stretched.

Now there is either something funky with the remote or you are pressing the button again. The video settings take quite a long time to show up (2-3 seconds). Could it be that you were pressing select again because you thought that we missed the first button event?

I pressed the wheel again after I moved it down to the choice to go back to the previous menu.
I don't notice a 2 or 3 second delay for the video settings. They seem to come up right away, athough I never timed it.

Oh, no! Vudu people can see what we are doing! I swear that it was my g/f who was searching for "The Notebook".

There should be a delay. Can you please double check. If there is no delay than that might be part of the problem.

Darn it! The delay is there. I think I see what was happeneing now. Everything with the VUDU is so fast. I think I mistook that delay with unresponsiveness from the remote. So I would hit the button on the remote again right before it switched screens but it was late enough that the box interpreted it as a change to the box setting.
I checked on both my boxes and I must have been doing the same thing without even realizing it. Every menu change seems almost instant except that one.
                    doH!

Perhaps you guys aren't any more "confident" with your button pushes than I am. I am always finding I have to click multiple times because they don't all get through due to interference or whatever.
