I hope it's a software/DRM issue and not a licensing issue -- it's bad enough Vudu isn't permitted to output HD over component even though AppleTV and Xbox 360 do that.
We can't talk about upcoming features before they are released. But I can say that I am not aware of any changes in either the 24 rental or the component output issue at this time. ATV2.0 and the wrinkles it brings are new and if Vudu were able to make changes as a result it would need to be worked into some future software release.

I don't know if Vudu's current 24 hour hard and fast rule was based on an interpretation of a studio contract or a stipulation in the contract. Same thing for the component output. I have no idea on what their contracts are with studios and nothing I say should be interpreted that I know a whit about it.

The good news is that any of this stuff should easily be changeable with software if and when the time comes where it can be changed.

There's really nothing more to be said about it and we don't want to raise anyone's hopes on any issues like this.

Is there anything you can say about how 1.3 is doing? I know you can't say much about the feature list, but can you indicate at least how the testing is going and any "ball park" ETA?

Publicly Stated Previously: Vudu will continue to upgrade and enhance the product on a regular basis.

Several comments about possible 1.3 features have been leaked by Vudu employees. You can find them in the forums here.

So I think you can draw your own conclusions on if there will be a 1.3.

I do not know any release date and I cannot say any more so please don't ask.

I recall reading that Vudu's pace so far has been to release updates quarterly, but I don't think we ever heard anything concrete. And it's hard to pin it down exactly since Vudu hasn't released new feature list and/or dates (last time there was a quasi-deadline for HD rentals).

You remind me of Shultz from Hogan's Heroes.

Thanks for the reply, I won't ask anymore (for now).

Well, let's see if quarterly is correct.

Vudu was released in October with revision 1.0.
                  November saw rev 1.1
                  December saw rev 1.1.1
                  January (late) saw rev 1.2.

So perhaps quarterly for major releases is correct, but I really don't know their schedule any more than you do.

That's just something I recall reading here. But since you gave the exact dates, it looks like Vudu has released point updates bi-monthly which is even better -- now we can start spreading rumo... ahem, I mean discussing possible features of March-April update to rev 1.3.

You're talking about the psychic interface. The VUDU automatically rents what you are feeling or thinking. And you thought the antenna was only for the remote.

I totally agree with that sentiment. I'm really a big proponent of having a grand master plan, but getting there in incremental or baby steps.

It takes longer for the "big bang" releases and creates excessive speculation, customer impatience, and expectations.

Incremental relases are faster to release and provide a smooth production line like improvement to the product over time.

The people that complain about this approach are the ones that claim it sacrifices quality. But I disgree with that, as long as the "big picture" objective is there.

So I would be totally happy if they could continue to stick to a release pattern similar to what they have exhibited so far.

I've eaten pies a big slice at a time and some pies (especially after Thanksgiving) I've eaten by nibbling at it a little bit at a time for snacks. No matter which way I eat it, the pie is still gone at the end of the day.

I've heard that VUDU has finally obtained and is using a beta version of a flux capicitor!!

The problem with "Big Bang" releases is that you usually don't get all the bugs out and its disruptive. Look what happened with Apple dropped their proprietary OS and went with netBSD. Or when Microsoft finally turned off legacy kernel driver support when they released Vista.

I agree that baby steps produces a more robust product as long as there is a plan and the deviations from the plan are minimum. One advantage of the baby step plan is that you are more "market" driven.

Since VOD is still in its infancy the baby steps plan fits right in with the market.

Yes, but we found in beta testing that it only works if you reverse the polarity of the deflector array.
