    December saw rev 1.1.1
    January (late) saw rev 1.2.

So perhaps quarterly for major releases is correct, but I really don't know their schedule any more than you do.

Hey, I'm seeing a trend here that indicates we'll see another update within the next week!!! Looks like monthly rather than quarterly. Regardless of the timing, I like what I'm seeing. These frequent updates mean that the Vudu techs are listening to us and to the 'competition' and are working their asses off to keep us happy and stay ahead of "the others". GO VUDU!!

        Smart guy!

I've been given the go ahead to say this. The "goal" from Vudu is to have updates monthly. I say "goal" because developments at times slip and it might not happen every month. So Vudu doesn't want to set up any unrealistic expectations. But the goal is to be able to release updates every 4 weeks (but sometimes it might be longer depending on what happens during testing).

            - Digital Rental has one license

So with physical media, being that purchase and rental are covered under the same "physical media" license, you can do what you ask. But digital content is another story at this time and the license differences are the reasons that we have different rent vs. buy times, etc.

If only it were consumer friendly!
This is a good explanation, and I think many reading this appreciate this distinction. My question is, can't some agreement be made with the distribution companies for allowing this to happen (everyone gets a cut). Just because there are lines, doesn't mean they can't be blurred.

Not that easy. Look at the writers strike. The majority of what it was about was getting the writers an increased and longer term cut of online content (Vudu is just that sort of online content too). Contracts and all with the content owners are very different for digital and physical releases. Until that time changes, we have to deal with the limitations we have. It's not just the distributors (I posted in another longer post somewhere in more depth on this), but it goes all the way down to the content owners. If your wrote a piece of music in a movie, you own content in that movie. If that movie was released more than 10 years ago, your permission (and every other content owner's permission for that film) is needed to release it digitally.

It's just the way it is right now...Sadly...

Don't forget about 1.2.1 that was released in February.

Oh, is there a 1.2.1 that's been released? OK. I think that was really a maintenance release with no real user enhancements but some more internal bug fixes.
