Right, I agree that film has far better resolution than video. No question - so no argument there.

But over time the silver halide does begin to degrade, colors fade, lines and streaks appear, etc. It's why films need to be restored.

My only question is that given the film technology of the 1960s and the inherent degradation in the film since then, is it still really better resolution than HD today? Perhaps so. Which means it would be very cool.

Movies with the best special effects. I guess that's why scifi is leading, but my vote is for action.

All six Star Wars movies would be a pretty sweet score for the vudu box.

Didn't you hear? Vudu is going to be the only place to see the seventh Star Wars movie. . . .

              Hey, we can dream, right?

High Definition all the way... I would just do all films HD. VUDU is a high end expensive box delivering low end resolution films. Yes technical issues need to be solved to deliver HD, I understand. The bandwidth issue is THE issue. But certainly I think HD is/could be a great selling/marketing point. The VUDU owner obviously has dosh to spend and watches a fair few films, thus they most probably have an HD TV, thus they probably want to see the benefit of it. As soon as you get the chance HD all the way please!

The biggest issue with HD right now is getting the content licensed. The box easily does it and it's beautiful. I've seen it. Network speeds need to be around 4 Mb/sec to 5 Mb/sec for instant viewing...

I am expecting HD content to be available sooner rather than later.

Also, if you think all the content is "low res" rent 300. It's stunning...

My box is connected to a regular 480i TV in the bedroom.

Are movies going to be available in both HD and SD?

Will vudu 'downgrade' (I don't know the terminology) so I can view hd-only content on my 480i TV? If that's the case, I hope my network can handle a stream that's twice as big ....

Well, SD movies are going to be the most prevalent for some time to come. I would expect movies that are in HD to also be available in SD. But not all SD content will be in HD...

HD movies will be scaled down when watched using the lower resolution connections (Composite/S-Video/Component).

Again, not sure you would want to incur the extra bandwidth use as I'm pretty sure everything will be available in SD for some time to come...HD will be a subset of the SD content, IMO. I think it's likely in the future that releases will be in both SD and HD...
