Missing a beat - Independence Day

So I'm browsing the new Monday movie categories on Vudu home page. There's a category for Independence Day... and I thought - great! Vudu will be highlighting the campiest Sci-Fi Independence Day movie ... appropriately called "Independence Day" - hey Vudu even has it in HDX... I'm thinking, great deal, even better, if they have it on cheap...

NOPE!! not even in the category. Had to go hunt for it.

My wife and I have a ritual of watching it every 4th of July instead of the "serious" movies that seem to come out of the woods on the 4th.

We have several friends from Canada, Europe and even Asia with whom we have talked about this movie. Many of them say it is one of the most reviled, 1-dimensional, inconsistent, chauvinistic American movies they have seen. I say, yes it is, get over it!

It is an action adventure with great special effects. It lightens the stress level, bad guys die, good ones win. Silliness wins, special effects win.

Even though we have a copy, I'm thinking of viewing the HDX version this year.

If you have never watched it, take a gamble, go ahead and rent it. Take it with a grain of salt - but it is still way better than many of the classic sci-fi remakes that have come down the pikes lately...

    Happy 4th to all!

Yea the invaders should be NBE's (non-biological entities) and transform into cars, planes, and other things, infiltrate society, and then fight each other while taking over the planet.

And it should have Megan Fox in it.

Re: Missing a beat - Independence Day - alternatives?

okay.... I'm up for alternative suggestions that fit this bill:

              1. a plot somewhat relevant to 4th of July
              2. campy/humorous (Mars Attacks is a good example)
              3. "blow-em-up-type" special effects (massive fireworks acceptable)
              4. watchable by both male and female (Megan Fox fits one criteria of course)
              5. on Vudu

As a reminder to all, YouTube on VuduLabs does have great HD fireworks for those who might want that alternative

It's kind of ironic but the London fireworks in HD on YouTube are simply amazing. Funny I'd recommend that to watch while savoring our victory over the Brits!
