    Pricing vs AppleTV

I own both an Apple TV and Vudu. I prefer the remote, interface and usability of Vudo over AppleTV. While I like the idea of HDX, I typically download HD since it's instant. HD quality is comparable on both devices.

I was surprised to see higher prices on the Vudu? For example, I wanted to rent The Last House on the Left in HD. Vudu was $5.99. Apple TV was $4.99. Today my wife wanted to purchase Stop-Loss. AppleTV was $10. Vudu was $15.

Vudu is a movie rental device. That's it's primary function. Why are your prices not competitive with AppleTV?

I would have thought that somebody that preferred the Vudu interface, the Vudu remote, and the Vudu HDX quality (is AppleTV still only sending 720p movies?) would have been willing to pay $1 more for the better experience.....

At the end of the day, it takes the same amount of time to find and download a movie. Is that really worth a $1 per movie or $5 on a purchase?

Vudu rentals should be priced the same as Apple TV.

I don't mind paying extra for HDX, but HD should be priced the same.

It seems like this may have happened already. Watched the proposal recently in HD for 4.99 (vs 5.99 for hdx, 3.99 for sd). Just checked wolverine, same story. Did a price reduction quietly occur, or did I just randomly check the two films that were reduced to 4.99 for hd?

The price of HD rentals is now $4.99, comparable to Apple TV's. Our HDX content is still $5.99 to rent, if you are looking for better picture and sound quality.

However, each service chooses different titles to promote each week. For instance, just last week the following titles were available for a $0.99 rental in SD, HD and HDX on VUDU 12 Monkeys, Shaun of the Dead, Knocked Up, The Untouchables, Hellboy, Bad News Bears and Borat. There is a new $0.99 special every day on VUDU, find them under "Explore Catalog".

Sad, sad, very sad to see that people still run mediocre systems with unterminated lamp wire plasticky speakers and lack of native 24p on their displays.

Most displays people own either don't accept 1080P24 or will still use 3:2 pulldown with it to go to 1080P60.

Movie Monitor (http://www.moviemonitor.com) provides a useful comparison of the price and quality of films available on the Vudu box and the Apple TV (among other services). In my opinion, the higher prices on the Vudu box usually reflect better quality, although it would be interesting to see a systematic comparison of prices.

I wanted to rent The Ugly Truth tonight and to compare prices, I noticed that AppleTV doesn't even have this available to rent until 12/25. Anyway, my local cable company charges $5.99 for the HD on demand of this movie - so I'd opt for the HDX version of course. Amazon also typically charges $4.99 for an HD movie like AppleTV, but the $1 is worth it for me and the HDX quality.

The 99 cent movie deals are great, too.

We had a flawless experience streaming "The Ugly Truth" today in HDX with the LG BD390.
