    VUDU and Uverse

    Does anyone on here use VUDU with AT&T Uverse?
    I am having real problems watching HD movies in real time. MY D/L speed is always 11.5 Mbps +/-. The VUDU test always comes up with 4.0 Mbps. If I wait until the HD movies is downloaded, then I can watch it.

    Re: VUDU and Uverse

    I have Uverse and both my dedicated VUDU boxes work just fine with instant HD viewing. Are you using a router behind the 2wire gateway?

      Yes I am. AT&T installed a 8 port Netgear in the family room. I have a laptop, AT&T box, VUDU, and DVD player hooked to it.
      Are you thinking that the VUDU is suffering from data interruptus? I never thought about that! Will have to feed the VUDU directly from the RG and see how things go.
      Thanks for the thought,

      Bob

        Let us know how it works out when you plug the VUDU directly into the 2wire. What model of the netgear did they install?

          I don't have Uverse but I do have a FIOS 25mbs connection. I now have around seventy devices on my network that access the internet. They cause no issues with my three VUDU boxes or my LGBD390.

            Watched Every Little Step (HD) last night wit VUDU box connected directly to AT&T Uverse Residential Gateway...same problem. audio/video breaks/rewinds thru the entire movie. Very frustrating. Will have to start working on AT&T to find and fix the problem...hate to go back to Comcast!!

                  If you read some of the articles on the DSLReports site there are a some DNS issues with using the 2wire gatway as your DNS server. There are also some posts on the Uverse forum about this.

                  Some folks have just have given up on using the built in DNS server and have gone to static configurations of their devices and use OpenDNS or other free DNS services in their device configurations.

                  I have always been a Uverse subscirber for about 2 years now and haven't had this issue with my VUDU's but I have my own DNS and Router behind their 2wire gateway so I am not effected.

                    bluestang50 - RonV suggested some changes to my VUDU box networking and now I have no problems. I am sure he can be of assistance to you should you run into problems.

                      Resurrecting this old thread because I don't know where else to turn. What changes did RonV recommend? I have horrible problems with Vudu on my Uverse service.

                        Resurrecting Once Again...

                        Up until this past Friday 12/26/2014 I've had no noticeable problems with Vudu streaming on my 2012 Samsung SmartTV with the Vudu app. I am using a Uverse RG with a cascaded DD-WRT LAN. Prior to Friday I last viewed from my TV on 12/18/2014 and there were no problems then or the times prior. Since I receive the message: "unable to stream this movie at the moment due to a network error."

                        The configured path to my TV is:

                        Uverse RG--->Airlink DD-WRT---->Dlink Switch---->Samsung TV.

                        As some have mentioned earlier, I have tried changing from the automatic IP detection to manual IP and DNS values, on the TV as well as the DD-WRT router. Neither seemed to make any difference.

                        I have also tried the following setups:

                        Uverse RG-------------------------->Dlink Switch---->Samsung TV.

                        Uverse RG--->Airlink DD-WRT------------------------>Samsung TV.

                        Uverse RG---------------------------------------------->Samsung TV. (Best results but still fails around 50 minutes)

                        Everything else (network-wise) appears to be performing as normal.

                        The only known change that occurred during this time was a brief power failure on the aforementioned Friday. I have since rebooted the Uverse RG and I have backed up, erased the nvram on the DD-WRT router and restored the router.

                        Has anyone found a solid way to use Vudu with Uverse?

                        Thanks.

                          Re: VUDU and Uverse

                          I've had U-verse since its' initial roll-out in St. Louis (2008) -- only in the last year, I have begun to start taking my VUDU library a little more seriously. :-)

                          Originally, I had U-verse's entry-level internet (Pro - 3 Mbps), which was "acceptable" for 720p streaming (with some buffering in the beginning). Just upgraded to "Max" (12 Mbps), and can now easily view HDX movies (with no buffering) over my Samsung Smart TV (The TV is connected to the U-verse gateway via Wi-Fi -- both happen to be in the same room).

                          Hope this helps.
