Again, guys I know I sound like a broken record, but give this time. For your info, the largest subset of movies became available in the last 2 to 3 weeks. So the library is still being built up. I know you've heard it but it depends on the studios. And, this is still very new - in infancy. BlueRay and HD-DVD have been out over a year and there's still not a lot of titles available in those formats...There certainly weren't when they first came out...

Very informative post that possibly could help Vudu when dealing with the studios. It will be interesting to follow the status each week. It is not the fault of Vudu that some are only available for purchase.

It would be nice to have a recent releases link on this site. As new dvds are released on Tuesdays, I like to check videoeta.com to see what's out. It would then be nice to check here to see what's new or coming including buy vs. rental info. As it is, I have to waint until I go home, fire vudu and see if anything is new....

I hope that when you say "fire vudu" you don't mean "turn it on", as it should be kept on all the time to receive the latests movies. If it's been off for a while, you won't see any new stuff the moment you turn it on again - it takes a little while to come in.

I did mean "fire up". I do press the "power" button on the remote when I'm done. I read somewhere that the box is put into standby mode --that it's not outputting video, but it's still online and capable of receiving updates. If I have the wrong information please let me know and I'll keep it "on" all the time.

                  Thanks,
                  Mark

But new releases are available on blueray or dvd same day as release.

vudu is competing with dvd rentals. Most people that rent dvds rent NEW releases. If they're not available on vudu (for whatever reason - reason is insignificant really) people will find other methods to rent new releases. They'll go to vudu's competition (netflix, blockbuster, local video stores)

                        bqmeister,

                        You misunderstood my point.

Vudu has been adding movies to the box for months. However, the largest amount of new movies came a couple weeks ago in anticipation for the launch of the product. So there may have been "new" releases from over the summer that still aren't on the box for various reasons as they weren't released to the box at that time. I'm not at liberty to go more in depth than that. However, new releases should now be released on Vudu the same time as in stores. The situation will get better and will improve. My point is that this is brand new and when BlueRay and HD-DVD were new the titles were few and far between.

I agree completely that new releases need to be rentable and that this purchase only stuff is a bunch of Barbara Streissand. It irks me too...

3 new movies were released today on DVD.
                          28 weeks later

                          Surfs Up
The only one on vudu is 28 weeks later and it is purchase only.

Also how come 28 weeks later does not show up under the new releases tab when you select it.
I believe it is one of the newest releases coming online today yet it does not show up under the new release sort.
It also randomly comes and goes from the featured movies selection on the main screen.

                            Ken,

I want to just give up going back and forth with you. The box hasn't been shipping a week yet. It's still getting off the ground. I don't know what else to say. There's a ton of positives to the box and yet all we hear about is how the box sucks because not every new release is available yet and not every movie is available for rental, etc.

It does suck. We agree with you. But it isn't the fault of Vudu. Perhaps disgruntled Vudu users should take it up with the studios. But this is going to take some time - you have to crawl before you walk and walk before you run. It's a new device and a new technology. It needs time to crank up to speed and it needs pioneers like yourself to get behind it.

I've spent a lot of hours since last February testing this thing to get it to where it is today. If I didn't believe in it, I wouldn't be spending the time testing to make it right. I wouldn't have watched crappy movies when there was nothing else in the database. I wouldn't spend tons of personal time in the forums here answering questions. And I can say the same about Ed and Ron as well. And the same goes for all the Vudu employees who passionately believe in this thing...

                              That's a cheap shot ....

The question is legitimate ... it's not clear why a featured movie like 28 weeks isn't on the new release list ...

Yes we all know the studios blow and that hopefully they'll see the light some day....

All of us love the idea of vudu here -- that's why were trying to figure out how and why it works. We have praised the company and it's efforts, and perhaps it sounds like criticism of vudu when in fact we all realize the studios call the shots on content. ... we just can' t help being frustrated by the lack of good rentable content....
