    Wal-Mart to buy Vudu

So Wal-Mart is taking over Vudu, how will this affect all current customers?

Re: "Wal-Mart Is Said to Be Buying Vudu Movie Service"

Like some of the comments here, I'm not a big fan of Wal-Mart. I try to avoid them as much as possible. I grew up in a small town in Illinois and when they came in the area, all of the mom-n-pops went out of business. Now, I understand how they provide "value" to their customers but I don't shop there.

However, being a Vudu customer....I believe this could be a positive step. Keep Vudu afloat, hopefully allow more same day movie availability, and hopefully cheaper HDX movies!

I'm not a fan of the adult movie section...however I've always been against censorship, like Blockbuster, on adult titles and hope Wal-mart doesn't cave in to their religious zealot backers.

They've already said the adult titles will be removed. This is reason for me to not only stop watching movies on Vudu, but also to stop shopping at Wal-Mart's stores. It's one thing for them to not want to carry porn in their stores if they deem it unsuitable, it's another to take it away from a service that already had it. REDUCING the amount of material available is never a good thing. For those who find this stuff offensive, there were already plenty of ways to get rid of it- the listings didn't even show up unless you specifically requested them to.

Wal-Mart's ultimate goal is to own EVERYTHING, and if that happens then their will will be imposed on EVERYTHING as well.

          This just plain stinks!

It's not like there's a large cross section of vudu customers and Wal*Mart customers so I don't see the compatibility. Heck, Wal*Mart doesn't even sell the high end HDTVs and Blu-ray players that would have vudu. One company has the image of being low class in everything they do and the other provides the best video quality. Where's the connection? What am I missing?

I would have much preferred vudu selling their technology to Netflix. One has a huge selection of physical media and the other a large streaming video library.

Don't be surprise that the next thing to go will be the unrated versions of movies.

I noticed there hasn't been any moderators commenting on the acquisition. The cat must have caught their tongues.

Re: "Wal-Mart Is Said to Be Buying Vudu Movie Service"

Wal-Mart does sell the unrated versions of movies in their stores (in several cases, those are the ONLY versions available, which sucks since I always prefer whichever version was shown in theaters) but only after it was clear that the unrated versions usually outsold the rated ones. Blockbuster seems to have done this too- what's really stupid about this is that most of these were cut to avoid an NC-17 rating because those stores won't carry anything with that rating, but they WILL carry these because they don't have a rating at all!

I wonder how many people from Wal-Mart are reading these forums right now? I had to pick up some soda today, and Wal-Mart is closest on my way to work so I usually pick it up there, but today I went out of my way to buy it someplace ELSE instead!

How do they treat their employees? Do you know any Walmart employees? How do they bully their suppliers? are you a supplier? do you know any suppliers?

Their are several i'm sure. I am sorry you felt the need to go out of your way and spend more money on gas and on the soda you would of gotten at Walmart. We do save people money so they can live better.

They've already said that they'll be getting rid of the After Dark (porn) section- they'll probably replace it with an all Pat Robertson section. I hope they also make 'full screen' versions of all the movies that are on now, because I don't like dem black barz on mah tee-vee.

                          Re: Wal-Mart to buy Vudu

If it's like my experiences at the several local Walmart stores I've been to, the VUDU service should improve even further with the prices getting lower.

The five or six local Walmarts that I've been to have typically been excellent service, very clean, and had excellent prices.
Although in the DC area, many of the Walmart parking lots are littered with cars costing over $50K.

But in my travels around the country I also had good experiences with the local Walmarts too.

The experiences were always bad when there wasn't a Walmart in the town since I always had to pay inflated prices at the mom and pop stores. I really hated paying a 30% premium because there was no competition. I couldn't have imgained living in an area like that. One to two weeks at a time was enough.

LOL! Correct you are. I would be shocked to see anyone from Vudu commenting any further on this.

Does anybody, I mean ANYBODY, think that this is a good thing? Walmart has a horrible reputation. Walmart believes in censorship. Walmart thinks there are only two ways to do anything, the Walmart way and the wrong way.

                              BOO HISS! BAD MOVE VUDU!!!!

Dude, the 3 advantages of this buy-out is 1) Vudu's life line, 2)potential more movie availability (especially on release day) and 3) cheaper HDX prices.

That's what comes to my mind..........
