What do you think about this?

I checked out a thread on AVS that I found interesting......What are your thoughts about this and the future of VUDU? FCC Approves Request, Opens Window for Pre-Disc VOD.

I know VUDU has some independent films that are "in theaters" showing now, but this new ruling gives major studios the option to distribute movies to the home while still in theaters, as well as other independents.....And just to think, the MPAA wanted this???? Theater owners protested the ruling.........

so, this says 'pre-disk' so it really means releasing to Vudu type services before going to DVD/Blu-ray...right? I guess that could mean while still in theaters but more likely it is the dvd industry that has more to worry about...why dilute box office sales.

I think it is great. No disc production costs, just beam it over the internet for 5 bucks a pop. They get money sooner, we don't have to buy or rent discs. I like it.

I further read recently the studios will have multiple windows of release.......Article in Home Media Magazine......http://www.homemediamagazine.com/kio...fruition-19418

Interesting part was: studios appear to be finalizing a sequential distribution chain based on margins that puts DVD/Blu-ray Disc rentals near the end of the line.

Specifically, studios, after a two-month theatrical window, would offer in order: new releases as premium priced (from $25) video-on-demand (VOD) on cable and the Internet, followed by electronic sellthrough on iTunes, Amazon VOD, Wal-Mart's Vudu, DVD/Blu-ray sellthrough, electronic rental via cable/web VOD, store-based rentals, kiosks and lastly, subscription-based rentals such as Netflix.

Interesting times for the VOD world IMO......And VUDU is right there to take advantage.......

Good. I canceled netflix and use Vudu for everything now. Just bought my second BX100 and put it in the bedroom.
