not bad considering all the Hollywood videos and Movie Galleries closed in my area, so we've got Blockbuster. The price is equivalent by the time i drive 7 miles to blockbuster.

my issue is there seemd to be less and less available for rental, also if oyu go back to a movie months later all of a sudden it is purchase only it would be nice if they contonued offering rentals once they psot it. I get the stick it in the inventory as a purchase first for a few weeks till the streaming rental is avaiable then brign our each tier as rental and purchase would make the unit siginicantly more apealing either on a TV or as a stand alone box ( you should have both) . mean who in this day and age that has a hgih def setup is going to " buy" an SD version of a movie when DVDs are 2.99 and or I can achive SD mvoies all day long on netflix and amazon servers. if you want to compete with on demand let HD and HDX rentals be for any and all movies coming out and keep them that way,

Talk to the content providers. They are the ones that decide what is sold/rented and when it is able to be sold/rented. This is nothing new.

                Re: new price for movies

do the agreements say some thing was rentable and then converted to buy only? it does seem strange I can understand that something might go from exclusive buy only to premium rent to general rental to recoup intial production costs, or as reduced buy (eg the 4.99dvd) and I have heard possibly even new pricing to allow for something to come out as download able (buy) the same time as released to either the theatrers or the stores to compete..... the issue is of course competiition , and what the studios control of course . if HULU,BOXEE, NEtFLiX and Block Buster can provide a 480P/720P rental of a title then VUDU should be able to cut a similar deal and to at least that level and price and then possibly offer a 1080P 24 as a premium ( the $7 hdx is my price threshold since I could proabably get the blue ray for $15). to compete with com cast HD you need to have a similar pricing model allowing at least the same titles to be rented at the same res just for the competion. folks like me have manny choices , internet rental capability ( hulu, netflix, blockbuster) and cable or fios and dvd and blue ray collections all making available the same title. for me personnally renting HDX is the discriminator here for Vudu untill one of the others , brings 1080P on a regular basis. keep up the 1080P rentals!!!.. thanks!

Automation, Yes a title could in theory be a rental for a couple of weeks and then go into purchase only. Sometimes its due to exclusive agreements with like cable. You can read this post which goes into the nitty gritty details:

I would think it's Vudu's job to "talk to the content providers".

Yes, it's a long running problem that has been holding back the service and still doesn't seem to be getting addressed.

Technology wise, Vudu has a very good product. They need to be much stronger in negotiations on content and price in order to take advantage of it.

yeah i think the prices are a lil high too especially since we have to wait like 3 weeks till after the movie comes out on dvd to watch it... either lower the price or allow us to see it theday its release.. i mean we got redbox here for 1$ and although i hate to say it netflix sends out mvoies the day they are released on dvd

That's not really true about Netflix anymore:

                        http://articles.latimes.com/2010/apr...ix10-2010apr10

They will now have a 28 day delay with new releases from 3 major studios.
