    Major positive for AppleTV

I've discovered a MAJOR positive for AppleTV over Vudu. If you have a rented movie and are in that movie (watching it or paused) at the end of the 24 hour viewing period, the movie does not end: YOU CAN FINISH THE MOVIE AND TAKE AS LONG AS YOU WANT.

If you leave the movie after the 24 hour period, you are given a warning screen that says if you proceed the movie will be deleted immediately. It gives you the option to go back and continue to watch the movie.

You could literally take days to watch a movie this way.

Vudu needs to adopt something like this as AppleTV has a big thumbs up on this one.

Then again, this could be one of the bugs they have to fix in ATV 2.1.

I don't think so. They obviously have the exit screen for when you stop watching and expired movie.

        Wow, interestin. Either:
        a) Apple has negotiated a different deal than Voodoo with movie powers that be
        b) Apple has a bug
        c) Voodoo misinterpreted the T&Cs

In any case, what is stopping Voodoo from releasing a quick fix? This would make a major change in rentals.

I don't think it's a bug as there is clearly a screen that warns you that the movie is expired and that if you exit it will be deleted. And it gives you the option to go back to the movie.

Yes, hopefully, Vudu can have something similar.

Thank you for confirming that it works with ATV. I posted about this working on iPods when the new iTunes came out. If this is indeed a feature, Vudu needs to get it ASAP.

24-hr window is #1 reason I am hesitant to run around the office passing out Vudu fliers. Most of people I know are busy professionals and have a hectic schedule which is not accommodating to uninterrupted viewing. Heck, even I was hit twice with re-renting charges already.

This would be really nice. There have been a number of times when my wife hasn't finished watching a move during a workout, for instance, and then she went back to work out at the same time the next day and had to re-rent it.

Sounds like she needs to spend more time working out!

Thanks! Is there a way for us to to find out if Vudu is even allowed to add this feature or is it something negotiated separately by Apple?

                      Re: Major positive for AppleTV

I am not sure if VUDU would disclose on what their studio/distributor negations consist of. Most of these agreements are bound by confidential and non-disclosure language in the agreement.

It is a "bug" and will be fixed. See my new post...

Not sure which post you are referring to. Do you mean this is an ATV bug or a Vudu bug that will be fixed?

Its a issue with Apple TV where if you leave a movie paused over the 24 hour limit you can continue to watch as long as you don't leave the movie and go back to the menus. Apple is in violation of the license agreements with the content providers.
