    Harddrive Space Issues After Update

After the update I cannot even download ONE movie. The Download manager says I only have enough space for 1.8 hours of HDX, which is ridiculous. It says Im using 225 GB's of 232, and I really dont see how.

Only thing in my rentals is movies I've purchased and watched, that need to be cleared. Still does not seem like I should be using that much of my HDD. Ive also never had a problem keeping several HDX movies on my HDD at a time.

    Well, an update:

I have an email in to support.

I also decided to activate my 2nd box, to see what kind of space it has, and it has about 45 gb's of space available.

What I think is, my initial box, that had several HDX files rented, and not yet watched, somehow had an issue when updated. It does not show them as being on the HDD, but the space is taken. Maybe once they are watched, and fall off, it will fix itself. Im going to move it to another room if support can't do anything with it, and put my other box in the living room. It's got enough space for about 11 hours of HDX, and thats plenty because I only try and have 2 on at a time.

Funny note, when I called to activate it, I asked the CSR about my space issue. He said, with the update, the boxes were no longer able to download files. I said, so you're telling me the only way I can get a HDX file is to stream it, and he said yes (while I'm clearly staring at the download option).

    Little better training fellas...

You and I are having the same issues. I have decided to take the plunge and rent then download for later an HDX movie. I finally see an In Progress message after waiting about 15 minutes. There is no indication of the time remaining like before the new software. I also reported the drive space indicator to the CSR and he said not to worrry about it. I told him I had no purchases or rentals pending. I'm going to check back in an hour to see what's happening.

I've left my other box connected in the bedroom, and I hope after a week or two, when those rentals die off, it'll clear out some drive space. The box I fired up downloaded Robin Hood HDX fine.

I'd only recommend renting off the box, because it gives you the popup after renting, asking if you want to download. The website does not. Also, Ive noticed that if you are moving around on the box, or in the download manager, it'll pause it's download and say "waiting". When I figured this out, I just cut the box off, then it went to town downloading.

Since you cannot clear a single download, but have to clear the whole list, it'd be wise to only have two or three downloaded at once, so you can wipe both when done, and then download more.

Nevermind about clearing a single download, you can. That makes it real nice, I can clear up space as soon as Im done watching a movie off the drive.

Wow, no WONDER it wasn't downloading when I kept checking it. I almost filled out a support ticket, but I already filled one out due to content problems, and I just wanted to watch a movie already.

This needs to be made a lot clearer...by which I mean, it needs to be at least hinted at somewhere.

Yeah, I setup Superman Apocalypse and Ghost Writer HDX before bedtime, and both were downloaded in the AM. Watched Superman, then deleted it, and the space freed right up.

It works well, once ya figure it out. I really like the new SW, just hope after a few weeks my other box clears the previous files off and frees up space. I guess the reason it "waits" to download while you are moving around, is because if you went to stream something, you'd not want it downloading at the same time, because it'd kill your stream speed.

I'll buy em on the box from now on, set it up to download as soon as I rent, then turn it off.

Re: Harddrive Space Issues After Update

I thought I tried turning it off and then back on, but maybe it has to be idle for a minimum time, like 5 minutes, before it'll start downloading.

I'm really enjoying the account info in the bottom right corner, that's a nice touch.

Re: Harddrive Space Issues After Update

I just got off the phone with CSR Dale at Vudu. My understanding is that D. Hatman who is moderator here also understands the problem. Dale has informed me that they have now acknowledged a defect in the software related to the drive filling up. My drive now indicates 232gb used of 232gb available. We were able to download one HDX movie when the drive indicated 223gb full. But a second movie did not download (indicator "could not fit"). There is an option to delete all downloads, but other than this one movie, I have no other rentals or owned. After we watch the HDX movie, I will have try to execute the delete. But my guess is that this will not accomplish the goal of freeing up the hard drive.

Dan Hatman, Can you provide any time / update on when the problem might be resolved? Also, if my hard drive is now full, will you be able to send the fix to the BX100?

Lastly, the first CSR's we spoke with this morning didn't know that the Live "Brazil" version had downloading capability. But I think that communication problem has been rectified.

                  Michael

Re: Harddrive Space Issues After Update

Glad to hear that they notice there is an issue. I could not think of a reason for 230 gb's to be used, with no movies on board.

I was also surprised when the CSR yesterday told me that the drive was full because I could not longer download. I think they weren't informed well.

I wonder if the drive is actually full, or is it the SW figuring the space wrong, and thinking it's full when it is not?

on the wish list thread he said there was an update scheduled for next week, though he was not sure if this fix was part of it or would be in a later update.
