My optical is still working (Brazil rev 63876) with 5.1 surround. I have 5.1 enabled in the Vudu box setup menu for both Digital Audio and HDMI.

I have a different issue that I also had with Amadeus.. I can only get 5.1 sound to my sound system if I use the optical out. Even with 5.1 enabled for HDMI to the TV in the Vudu setup, if I feed the optical out of my TV to my sound system, I only get stereo (no rear channel sound). I've always used the optical out of the Vudu box directly to my sound system when watching a 5.1 movie, because this is the only way I've ever been able to get surround sound. Amadeus and Brazil act the same.

The optical link from TV to my sound system does output 5.1 sound when I tune an over the air broadcast with 5.1 sound, so this says my TV is capable of outputting 5.1 over its optical out to the sound system. If the Vudu box is really outputting 5.1 on the HDMI out, then maybe my TV isn't transferring this to its optical out. I have not been able to determine where the 5.1 is getting lost on the HDMI to TV or TV optical to sound system link, it could be the Vudu box, or could be the TV.

      Gary,

Is the TV capable of outputting DD 5.1 through the optical out?

Yes. I have the TV connected to an antenna for over the air HD, and it does output 5.1 from broadcasts that have it.

The TV is a Samsung LN46A850, and the sound system is a Samsung HT-BD1250 (BluRay home theater). These are connected via both HDMI (for DVD to TV) and optical Toslink (for TV to sound system sound). I confirm the sound travels by the optical link, not HDMI, by unplugging the optical cable.

My Vudu BX100 is also connected to the TV via HDMI, and also to the 2nd optical input of the HT-BD1250 via a 2nd optical cable. This optical link is the only way I get 5.1 sound for Vudu movies. I do have the BX100 set to output 5.1 on both HDMI and digital audio outputs.

Not a real big deal, but it takes more buttons on the remote to select the direct optical link.

My box is now updated to 64513, no change to this sound behavior.
