Why choose Vudu? Convince me. Please!

    Looks like a super service.
With that being said...the prices are the same as my current satellite provider. The titles are the same. The 1080i is the same. Why? I want to use it. I'd like to have some credible reasons.
I watched my first movie yesterday on my Panasonic BluRay. I had the black bars at the top and bottom- not much of a bother but I wouldn't have that with my current 1080i provider. I also had during the film three times where 'buffering' came onto the screen and delayed the movie momentarily. I have the highest speed possible and it tests out that way too.

Talk me into it. I'd love to have reasons. But am coming up short at the moment.
Thank you all for the feedback

    Happy Holidays.

I'll chime in on this one........Sorry you had the buffering problem, but the techs at VUDU can help you straighten that out.....I am an original VUDU box owner and my HT is built around it, along with Blu-Ray.....

First, the black bars you are seeing is the difference in aspect ratios of the film you are watching vs. the type of display you have...Anything shot wider than the typical 16x9 display will show black bars if presented in it's proper aspect, or the provider can crop the image in order to "fill the screen"......If you were to view a cropped version of a CinemaScope width film, you would notice a loss of picture information......

My preference has always been to view a film in the aspect the director intended, and I am happy VUDU chose to stay with OAR......If you want, check out AVS forums to get more info on aspect ratios.....

Second, VUDU has a resolution of 1080p/24, not 1080i..........For my purposes it fits because the image is very film-like..

No one can "talk you into" anything....you need to do the research and do what's best for you....In my view, if one allows someone else to "talk them into" something, they've made a bad choice right off the bat......

Have a happy New Year, and I hope things work out whatever you decide.........

VUDU Audio and video are not the same as your providers. VUDU HDX titles use 1080P24 at 9mbps MPEG4(assuming you internet connection has the bandwidth) and DD+ audio.
It is currently the best streaming video and audio quality available. The only thing better right now is from a Blu-ray Disc.

The black bars at the top and bottm have to the with the movies aspect ratio. If VUDU had them and your provider didn't, that means that your provider was cutting off around 40% of the picture and not offering what the aspect ratio was in the theater.
If you go to the theaters to see a movie wou will notice how the movies have different aspect ratios, some have an aspect ratio that fill teh screen in an HD set but many have a wider aspect ratio and to see the entire picture as it was presented in the theater, it will have black bars above and below.
