Thanks. I agree VUDU should continue to do both. I was just curious if anyone actually required both.

    Best Regards

I don't blame Vudu for this, but I am dumbfounded by the fact that studios would want this. I think having separate listings can lead to confusion and having one page where you can choose SD/HD and rental/purchase is much simpler.

Again, it is two different business units within the same studio, each wanting their own share of the spotlight (or so I would suppose). It doesn't make sense to me, but Disney has specifically wanted to segregate purchases and rentals. AFAIK, it's actually a different file on the servers as well! I don't know if the quality is different or if there is anything else, but from what I understand there is double storage.

Cars? No. It's not. And actually, given the limited color depth and actual detail in animation features, I don't know if HD buys one much...

There has been many articles on the internet dealing with HD and animation flicks. AVS forum has some very good explanations.

The BD is a night and day difference when compared to the SD DVD.
All the new animation titles have tons of detail that is missed in an SD version. Each new animated offering has more and more detail.

That Pixar BD that has a bunch of their animated shorts is a good example of how they have progressed in animation. What they are capable of today is nothing short of amazing.

With BD I could see. But as we've discussed, Vudu isn't at that level of detail yet. So I'm still not sure how much better it would look in HD vs. SD, but it would be interesting to see. There's a couple animated films in HD on Vudu and it would be interesting to compare them....

On the regular titles there is a difference between HD and Sd so I would expect an animated HD title to look better. While not as good as BD/HD DVD I would still expect the VUDU HD version to be better than SD. It is a big improvement just when watching Starz HD(Cars) so I would expect even better if VUDU had Cars in HD.

Re: Cars is the first Disney Title available for purchase

                      Sorry to revisit the topic...

Although I'm happy that Disney is now offering purchase and more content on Vudu, I do think the double placard/file is fair. On iTunes any Disney movies available for both rent and purchase are not shown seperately and it actually makes sense from a useablity standpoint. Useability is something Vudu takes seriously, I have no doubt, but this requirement of Disney is now adding confusion to the Vudu experience.

Having 2 different files is less aggrevating to me because if that's the way a studio wants it that's something that can be hidden from the user in the UI. I still think it adds a slight burden on the infrastructure.

I find it a bit convenient that it is Disney making this strange requirement on Vudu and hope that if the folks at Vudu are stuck with this kind of an arrangement they will be working on a way to make it less confusing/frustrating from a useability standpoint.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

I'm wondering if you would be able to make transparent placards and overlay them on top of each other?

If you did it right, you could make the graphics on each placard slightly offset so that when you cross your eyes just right, you'll get a cool 3-D image!!
