That sounds reasonable to me as well. It's just a separation of the concepts of filters which should persist and always be applied, and searches which are what you are looking for at a specific time but should be limited by the global filters.

Yes, but you never know - there may be some rental titles that Apple will never be able to carry since they don't give the ability to purchase from AppleTV.

Actually, I doubt that. All new movies are released on Tuesdays for DVDs and digital purchases. With the exception of Warner Brothers, digital rentals are available 30 days after DVD/digital purchase release. AppleTV is bound by those same restrictions. So Vudu will actually have the purchase movies available earlier than ATV will have them for rental.

The other huge thing is that there are ZERO, count them ZERO, DolbyDigital 5.1 SD movies on iTunes/ATV. There are quite a few DD5.1 SD movies on Vudu.

That seems like a good argument not to require seperate placards for rental and purchase titles (I think you said it was a Disney requirement).

If a rent only filter was applied it seems to that it would be better to show on the same rental placard that it was also available to purchase.

I don't buy movies so it doesn't matter to me, but I'm still scratching my head over the seperate placard requirement.

Again for me, "out of sight, out of mind" works well. My expectation of either the Vudu or the ATV is to give me some instant options for movie rental when there's nothing on TV and in a way which is easy to use and enjoyable. I loose the enjoyability factor when I can't rent a movie that sounds appealing and is only viewable by purchasing it for the same price as a DVD.

I'm also not looking for the box to replace blockbuster at this point. I just want newer releases whenever possible from the studio. This probably differs from the expectations of many people and I acknowledge that.

Bingo! That's exactly what my question was earlier.

Unfortunately, my vocabulary only lets me grunt my questions incoherently.

I beg to differ on that point.

                  Beg to differ what?...

That your not looking to replace Blockbuster?
That you are also a renter only?
You want to have a permanent solution for rentals only?
You are leaning towards the APT as a more viable solution right now?

It's very interesting how many people on this thread are jumping down my throat for my opinions. I'm not asking anyone to agree with me, I was simply looking for an answer to the threads topic and have been attacked and pushed to validate and defend my views.

I purchase technology for what it can do now, not what it will be. If I was a beta tester, I'd put in the time to help develop the product down the road.

Actually what I meant is that I begged to differ that there aren't other people on this forum that agree with your viewpoint. Which is what I thought you were trying to say.

Myself, I do agree with all your points, except (as indicated in my previous post) I am not leaning towards APT as the "only" viable solution.

I can appreciate having both technologies. I think there's a lot of merit for having the best of both worlds for movie availability.

Aren't you being a bit overly sensitive here? No one is attacking you and has said your opinions are wrong. No one has called you any names or insulted you for what you want. We've offered our own opinions and we've questioned why you have yours. But that's not attacking. It's legitimate discussion. What's funny is you complain in one sentence that you are being attacked but in the next you say that you aren't asking anyone to agree with you.

Which is it? You can't have it both ways. You can't come into a forum and make the statements and ask the questions w/o having people ask why. It's not at all personal. Rather, people are curious about others motivations and we simply want to understand. You can't come in make statements or opinions and not expect to be challenged. That's the purpose of discussion forums.

Please, the fact that you want to return your Vudu is fine. No skin off my nose or anyone else's. I own an AppleTV as well as a Vudu. I like both. I use the Vudu more but ATV has its place. Your opinion may be different. And that is fine!

Please step back, breath deep and realize we are all just trying to understand you and know you better. We have no interest in blasting you to "kingdom come."

It's not the vocabulary, it's the drinking grain alcohol straight up. You really need to stop that.

(If you manage it, let me know how you did it, apparently I need to cut back to a quart a day. )
