    VUDU Version 1.3 Sighting

Just received and installed VUDU 1.3

Since I am in therapy right now, busy lifting pints, I haven't been able to extensively look at it.

Maybe someone from VUDU could buy us a vowel and provide a feature list for 1.3 so we can better check it out.

Congrats on a new release, right on schedule!! If you keep this up, I'll be able to start setting my watch by them.

    Regards

    OK, here you go:

    - Ability to archive/delete content!
All TV shows and some movies (Most Indies and some major studio releases) can be archived meaning you can delete them from the box and re-download them at a later time w/o repurchase. Most major studio movies however, can only be deleted permanently, meaning you'd have to pay again if you want to watch again after a delete.

    - IR Control
Yes! Yes! Yes! The Vudu now has the capability to be controlled via IR! Right now Logitech Harmony and Phillips Protos are among the supported remotes. It will require purchase of a special IR dongle that plugs into the back of the I/O port on the Vudu - DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT plug in any other IR receiver into that port. You may damage it. You have to use the IR receiver from Vudu. These should be available for purchase imminently from the Vudu store. As someone who has tested this feature extensively, I will say it is VERY nice

    - Ability to force any HDMI resolution - for those 1080p/24 TVs that don't report as such, etc.

I think there may be a couple other things. I think there's a further improvement to the noise/popping issue some people are having as well.

JohnA should post the full release notes soon.

Sweet, more features! At this pace, by the time I get around to organizing and cleaning up my media library, Vudu will have extender functionality, hehe

P.S. If/when Vudu gets more HD movies for purchase, I hope archiving functionality will be enabled for them too.

Well, truth be told, very few major studio movies are available for archiving. I have no idea why, but it all goes back to the current licensing arrangements. For the life of me, I can't figure out why it would matter, but at this time, it does. I hope the licensing will loosen up in the future, but the good news is that at least with TV shows, you now don't have to have them taking up space.

FYI, on the HD front, the owned Bourne movies are not archivable...

I see my box is now called a VUDUBX100. Or has that always been there in the system info?

That is the name of the SKU of the box. This is a new field on the display.

We are still waiting for VUDU to publish the offical list of features in this release but as Jon said we now have a archive/delete function and IR support and a slew of internal fixes to the code.

Dave Zatz has put out an entry on the IR dongle. Looks like it will be $39.00. It's probably this pricey as it has extra circuitry for operation with the box.

This is by far, the coolest and most useful feature on the Vudu system, but absolutely worthless until it can be used for ALL MOVIES... including HD.
I could be suave, but how many crude guys do you know?

I wouldn't say its worthless. There is a lot of content that can be "Archived" to the "Cloud". TV shows seem to be one of them and classic moives are another.

Yah Baby! And it works really well too. The dongle should be up for purchase on the Vudu site any time. Probably tomorrow...

I've already looked - I'll buy it as soon as it comes out. I've got the Harmony 880 so I assume that it will work perfectly. Can't wait.
