VuDu vs. 360 vs. Apple TV

Yet another nutty review from our buds over at Gizmodo:

    Plus a 'mini-review' of 1.3:

So many Apple & Mac fanbois on those sites you just gotta take it with a grain of salt.

The fact that people are talking about Vudu and putting it in the same class as AppleTV and XBox360 I think is fantastic. All the systems excel in different ways and that is exciting because that usually means they are all striving to catch up with each other. Owners of any system will win.

I'm an Apple fanboy personally, but AppleTV has failed to convince me. And the XBox 360's "point" system weirds me out a bit - just charge me $3.99. I'd love to see more TV shows available from Vudu.

The IR receiver option is great news - I'm ready to get my Harmony remote all set up!

I love the VUDU but the Xbox Live point system is excellent. Since it is points and not a dollar value you can usually find them on sale somewhere. I usually get my 1600 point cards for only $10 to $14 on sale when they are normally $20. With Itunes I've always seen a $25 card for $25.

But isn't that a little weird? To me it means that if I buy points at full price (like because I'm out of points) then I'm always going to feel like I'm getting screwed.

I know there are people who will like this kind of system. But I think it's not mainstream. I don't know if it's one of the reasons the service hasn't caught on, but it's why I never used it.

Interesting. I never knew they went on sale. Where at... best buy/circuit city?
I could be suave, but how many crude guys do you know?

Once a a while Target will have them on sale. I got one last year in November. I don't mind the point system as long as you know what the conversion rate is.

Alternate currency systems always smack to me of being "roped in". What's the point (no pun) of abstracting the prices of things from real money except to obfuscate?

              But again, that's my opinion.

What you never went to a amusement park and you had to buy coupons to go on rides? I don't feel that points rope me in. I just by them when I know I am going to use them.

Isn't paying so much every month for cell phone minutes the same type of "rope"? Dollars for minutes.

                Anyway back on topic here...

You ROCK Chopper!! Sic Chico on them for me!!

I was surprised no one mentioned the new IR feature. That was a point GIAN made in his argument.

Who the heck is this Gian guy? He's so full of BS. The interface has pretty much not changed in a year! I had one of the first plexiglass boxes. Aside from the graphics being rougher and not as well polished, the interface hasn't changed. You can always tell someone who's full of crap, but you can't tell them much!

He also seems to cave a little when pressed, but without admitting it. That's another BS alarm indicator for me.
