Question, looking at the picture I cannot immediately tell, but where does the IR dongle plug into?

$40 seems kind of high just to get rid of a remote doesnt it?

The I/O port in the back.

Dunno. I paid something like $250 for my first Harmony 880...

It seems high, but then again, most customers are probably going to continue to use the RF remote as it suits them just fine. For those that really want IR, they already have the expensive remotes and so $40 isn't such a big deal. Since the cost to manufacture and produce something is inversely proportional to the volume of items produced, it's probably an expensive add-on to have manufactured at this point and given that a small percentage of customers are actually going to purchase it, it's pricey. Probably would have made more sense to put an IR receiver inside the Vudu to begin with but that's not what happened and we can't go back in time and change the design.

The Vudu IR dongle is not just a standard IR receiver like you can find elsewhere. There's some extra internal circuitry that is needed to make it work. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT plug in another IR receiver into the I/O port on the Vudu. You'll most likely damage it and it's not repairable..

I agree with NA9D - if you're already invested some money into automating your entertainment system then $40 is highly worth it. I also have the Harmony 880 and it's an excellent remote. For me to have to use another (proprietary) remote was frustrating so even if the dongle had cost $100 I would've still bought it as soon as it came out.

To compensate for the error in their ways, maybe VUDU could give me $40 in movie credits!!

I'm quickly running out of my current movie credits and looking for a way to squeeze some more out of them. I think a "senior" discount is needed too!! Oh.. Plus I'm Vietnam War Era Vet from Ohio, so I think some sort of verterans discount is in order too!! (Don't forget the Make A Wish Foundation)

Don't know what sort of setup you have, but with mine, try using 7 seperate remotes at the same time to navigate through your entertainment system. Trust me, it's painful.

It's definitely worth the money to me for convience I get from it.

The Harmony Remote, I own, is great but I think it's pretty spendy. I also own and still use my MX-500 Home Theatre Master, which is much cheaper, but only has IR learning (no Internet connectivity).

So with what I own it's not really a problem for me to update my Harmony, from the Internet, then use it to train my MX-500. But I feel for someone who would have to pay for an expensive remote just to use the VUDU dongle.

I've also used my MX-500 to train my Harmony for some original remotes I've long since stopped using and are lost in space somewhere.

When I've got them teaching and learning from each other, it's almost like watching a Remote Love Fest!!

                            At least it's free shipping.
I was going to order one but I'm not so sure now. I fear that I will get it and not use it with my harmony and continue using the existing VUDU remote. I guess I can holdout for a little while until I hear the reviews from people.

I currently have a Harmony (older model that came free with my HDTV). It is really nice. Id really like to use it to control my Vudu also. I guess to me its just one of those things where Id rather put $40 toward upgrading the rest of my entertainment system first you know? When it hits $20, Ill bite.

So, dont get me wrong, I want one, I just dont want to spend $40
