Issues with Constant Buffering, Slow Speed Tests

    Hi Vudu,

In the past, I've been able to stream HD movies without issue. Over the last few months, even SD content seems to constantly buffer, making most movies unwatchable.

I'm running a Vizio Blu-Ray player connected wirelessly to my router. Speed tests from my laptop yield around 20 Mbps down from local servers, as low as 6 Mbps from distant ones. Speed tests on the Vudu app yield under 1 Mbps.

I have no issues streaming Netflix HD content from my Blu-Ray, so I don't think it's the wireless connection.

I've tried three different DNS settings in my Blu-Ray -- Comcast's Chicago DNS, Google's DNS, and the DNS recommended in other Vudu threads (4.2.2.2). Nothing works.

    Please help.

    Ryan

      Hey Dan,

Just an update. I spoke with Melissa on the phone, went through some basic steps. Nothing worked, so we continued to interact via email. I was told I would hear back from someone within a business day or so. That was a week ago.

I understand things get busy, research can take some time, but your team needs to learn two important things about support:

      1) Appropriately set expectations.
      2) Follow up with the customer to let them know their request has not fallen into a black hole, even if a resolution hasn't been reached.

Neither of the above points are difficult to implement, but they are supremely important in managing customers.

      Ryan

Re: Issues with Constant Buffering, Slow Speed Tests

I am trying to figure out how much buffer my new vizio e3d420vx tv has. The fastest connection I can physically subscribe to from my ISP is 5mb due to copper lines. I frequently speed test near that 5mb using other tests. Using the speed test on vudu I am getting only sd results with a few hd results. I only want to use this service if I can get hdx quality. Is there a strategy I can use to start a movie, pause to allow it to download so I don't get frequent buffering messages? If I can determine how much vudu can send to my tv buffer then this will tell me if this download for 30 minutes watch for 20 will work.

If I purchase a movie for $21 or however much to own does this ever get stored on a hidden hardrive or flash memory in my tv I haven't yet discovered or does it just give me the right to access live buffered streaming for life?

I have tried to private message you dhatman but it says I don't yet have permission.

Thanks for any answers to help me determine what is physically going on here and if it will suit my situation and needs.

With the device you have, you cannot download movies. Everything that you watch on that device from VUDU would be streamed real time. How do you have your network setup, are you connecting the TV using wireless to your router?
