Should I buy a Vudu STB?

I'm seeing these on Amazon and e-bay for $99 and under.

My goal is to pre-download HDX rentals. I have Vudu as an app on my television but I just don't have consistent throughput for HDX rentals.

Does the STB still do this? Can you initiate the download remotely? Is Vudu still supporting STB customers? Do you see this as a viable long-term investment?

As an aside, I wish Vudu would support partial pre-downloading on BD players that have local storage. I don't need the whole thing- just give me enough of the HDX movie so I can make it through without constantly re-buffering or dropping the quality.

Re: Should I buy a Vudu STB?

I don't know if the hardware limitations of the VUDU box would make it a wise long term investment......I have the VUDU box currently and have approx. 25 movies downloaded to it, with the rest in the cloud.....I, for one am waiting for anothet STB option, perhaps the WD Live Hub, Tivo, or the like...Something that has internal storage.....Another great STB would be one of the Popcorn Hour set tops.....They have videophile specs.....Would be an awesome fit with VUDU.....

Re: Should I buy a Vudu STB?

It works fine for pre-downloading rentals...particularly good for those of us who are bandwidth challenged (it takes me about twelve hours to download an HDX title).

I just bought an LG BD690, and you can pre-download to it too.

When I bought my STB, it was $300 with a $200 movie roughly $100. $99 for a used piece of hardware that age seems kind of high. If you need another BD player, I'd highly recommend the LG. It's fast (at least faster than my elderly Samsung and Panasonic players), has decent app support and does all of that fancy newfangled streaming stuff I keep hearing about.

I got my first bx100 for about $20, second bx100 about $30, and a bx1000/xl with wireless kit, travel pack, and other accessories for maybe $50. I got them for downloading hdx titles and keeping my purchased stuff stored locally.
