What happens when you try to spell check?

That "ABC check" that you mentioned links to the ieSpell plugin for the browser that aaronwt is talking about.

The name reference and the "reaction" scenes make it obviously not a conincidence.

Since I haven't seen the other video, I'll take your word on it.

But I still contend that there are lot's of comedic out takes of horrific things, so I'm still not sure what his real intent was.

I also doubt that the average viewer of Family Guy would really make the connection. I'm obiously a case in point.

I've never had to press an icon to use the spell checker. I've always just right clicked and it works. But on this forum it doesn't work that way. I see where you are tlaking about. I hit that button and then it uses the spell check. I never even noticed that was there since I'm so used to right clicking to access it.
              Thanks.

That's interesting. I've always it by clicking on the icon.

I'm getting better at my spelling. The only one I've messed up so far is SuperCalaFrakItEspeciallyAliceDosis.

You had me worried there. Glad you got it to work. I have seen what you observed where some dialoge boxes automatially spell check and others do not. I don't know what the differences are.

I know if I use a plan text box in my home web email system ieSpell highlights mis-spells automatically. If I turn on the advanced editor I have to right click and select "Forcibly".

Just use Firefox > 2.0 and all your troubles will fade away Oh, and the spell checker works fine here too.

Only Internet Explorer for me. I don't like Firefox and it's been many, many years since I used Netscape. No Safari for me either.

Ditto for me. I tried Firefox when I had a problem with Flash 9 crashing IE7 in Vista and didn't like it. Once I got IE fixed, I never looked back at Firefox. I tried Safari too but it seemed like you couldn't have a favorites pane like in IE (and the others). The favorites took there own page and you kept having to hit back, etc.

Each browser has their strengths and weaknesses. Its best to leave it up to the person who wants to choose one over the other for home use.

Since I deal with corporate deployments of applications we can't allow the end user to choose since each browsing platforms have different issues with controls, plug-ins, etc. Testing applications in the Web 2.0 world isn't getting any easier since each browser tends to violate WC3 specifications under one circumstance or another.

And it's worse than that. I deal with one supplier who has been using a particular portal site into their SAP system. It's an IE only site which should ring warning bells as if it's browser specific, it's violating just about every W3C rule in the book. But it's worse. The site is not compatible with IE7! So any users who have upgraded to IE7, I've had to downgrade back to IE6. It's not pretty! You have to manually edit registry keys, etc. That's one thing I HATE about Windows. You cannot easily uninstall stuff.

I had a user who's Office install got messed up and then I messed it up further trying to fix it. I'd deleted just about every file and registry entry that I could find. Yet when I attempted to reinstall I kept getting this "patch file invalid" error or something like that! And that's reinstall from the original CD! Finally, I found a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID key way down near the end of the list that contained some install information. Once I deleted that, it was gone.

On my Mac, I basically can just delete the application package and I'm good to go. Sometimes you have to find some stuff in the user Library or the root library but it's pretty simple (would be simpler if I could get $&*# Spotlight to search in those locations!! ). It is still simpler regardless than going through the registry!
